Photoshop CS6 UNWORKABLE on Mavericks!

Hello fellow "apples" 🙂

I've a late 2012 Macbook Pro (non retina) with 2,6 GHz i7 8GB Ram and 750HDD

Since i've updated the OS to mavericks yesterday I've been struggling with photoshop CS6, it can work just fine for a minute to completely freeze for a few or even 10 or so seconds ( sometimes even more ) until it will respond. This issue had not existed in Mountain Lion. I've also noticed that the sound voulume bar can be laggy, it jumps a few dots instead of steady increments .

Now i'm an artist not a tech guy, but my guess will be it has something to do with the new memory allocation thing, anyhow it made my life really difficult as i cannot work in PS anymore, and that's a serious stab... Someone should fix that really fast as being a freelance artist and illustrator I've lost a tool that gets the food on my table, if we won't get a fix asap some heads should roll.... :/

Icecoldart, you're not alone. I have Photoshop CS6 on my iMac 24-inch, Early 2009 running Mavericks (OSX 10.9). It seems that it happens after a few 10-20 mins and freezes up the whole computer for 10+ second. It's gotta have something to do with the memory for sure. Hopefully Adobe will send out a update soon.

I have not encountered the problem you describe with Photoshop CS 6, but I do not have the whole Creative Suite. (I do not know if you are using CS or the Creative Cloud version.)

There is a possibility that you have some corrupt preference files probably are not replaced when performing a reinstallation. As the ~/Library folder is invisible in both Mountain Lion and Mavericks, you will need to make it visible. Macworld has a useful article showing how to do so. If you are not experience in digging around in the Library, don't just start deleting or moving things around that you are not sure of...it can cause problems. There is a file named "com.adobe.Photoshop.plist" which is at ~/Library > com.adobe.Photoshop.plist Move it to some other location, the Desktop, for example, and try to launch Photoshop. This preference (plist) file will self regenerate. I do not recall whether you will have to re-enter your License number when doing so or not so look that up in advance. (If you don't have it, but registered your product with Adobe, you can recover this information by logging in to your account on their web site.)

If that fails to resolve the matter, after closing Photoshop, you can move the new plist file to the trash and replace it with the older on that you put on the Desktop.

If that does not work, you may want to post on the Adobe Forums as there may be something else going on.

Good Luck!

LVDG,

Sometimes Adobe products simply don't like "changes in their cages" and may require entering the licensing data if you can get to that point. If not, I would suggest going ahead and reinstalling it from scratch. Remember that simply trashing the application does not get arid of everything. There is the Preference file I mentioned earlier and a few others. Sometimes tracking them down can be a bit of a nuisance. I use an application called AppZapper which does a pretty good job of tracking down all the assorted files associated with an application so that you really do get a fresh start on the new installation. There are a number of other similar applicatons, but that happens to be the one I use.

Please post back and let us know how things work out.

I have been having a number of issues using Photoshop with Mavericks.

I have a brand new Mac Mini server and the latest Adobe CC. I have not been able to get Photoshop to recognize folders and open files using the file_ Open feature in Photoshop. I also can not save files to any folder.

I have a TON of memory and extra graphics cards.

Mavericks has made my computer so so slow. Everything takes way too long to open. I am so sorry I updated. It is a nightmare.

SOLVED!!!!

I had same issues since update, spent lots of time on phone with Adobe, no luck, they had no idea how to help me. What was strange is that not everyone in our agency had that problem, so after doing some digging we narrowed the issue to Adobe Drive 4. After uninstalling adobe drive, everything went back to normal, as smooth as before the update. Before we tried reinstalling CS6 as well as CC - no luck.

Hope this helps others in same situation.

Adobe made a statement, that they have tested it very well, i guess none of the test scenarios had adobe drive included in it.

BTW. peeps who had adobe drive 5 installed didn't experience any issues.

Good luck!

Tom

My iTurtle is an iMac again! It's finally working and fast.

An upgrade to Mavericks can cause problems but not necessarily.

In my case:

I narrowed down the problem. First I had to check whether it was Photoshop causing the problems or Mavericks. It was Ps.

What I did, not in particular order.

Resetting NVRAM / PRAM.

Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller).

Reinstalled Creative Cloud, reinstalled PS CC both twice.

Disk Utility’s Repair Disk Permissions.

Removed all the plugins and folders and reinstalled them all twice.

Updated Java.

Uninstalled Adobe driver 4, installed Adobe driver 5, uninstalled 5 again.

Got the latest updates for several plug-ins for PS like NIK,Topaz etc.

In Ps Preferences-Performance uncheck The Graphic Accelerator/performance, quit Ps, reboot, start Ps check The Graphic Accelerator/performance again.
This seemed the final solution.
