Photoshop CS6 UNWORKABLE on Mavericks!

Hello fellow "apples" 🙂

I've a late 2012 Macbook Pro (non retina) with 2,6 GHz i7 8GB Ram and 750HDD

Since i've updated the OS to mavericks yesterday I've been struggling with photoshop CS6, it can work just fine for a minute to completely freeze for a few or even 10 or so seconds ( sometimes even more ) until it will respond. This issue had not existed in Mountain Lion. I've also noticed that the sound voulume bar can be laggy, it jumps a few dots instead of steady increments .

Now i'm an artist not a tech guy, but my guess will be it has something to do with the new memory allocation thing, anyhow it made my life really difficult as i cannot work in PS anymore, and that's a serious stab... Someone should fix that really fast as being a freelance artist and illustrator I've lost a tool that gets the food on my table, if we won't get a fix asap some heads should roll.... :/

Icecoldart, you're not alone. I have Photoshop CS6 on my iMac 24-inch, Early 2009 running Mavericks (OSX 10.9). It seems that it happens after a few 10-20 mins and freezes up the whole computer for 10+ second. It's gotta have something to do with the memory for sure. Hopefully Adobe will send out a update soon.

Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB

Software: OS X 10.9 (13A603)

I am experiencing performance issues as well, however, Since an update to OS 10.9 on a mid 2012 MBP 2.7 GHz i7 with 16 GB Ram, CS5 is not allowing me to update text. When I select the text tool, type text and then return to the text and highlight it to change font or style, the text disappears, and is actually deleted. This happens when I select any text in any of my psd files, or when I create new files.

Have tried all the tricks and have opened a thread on the Adobe site, however, no solution has been found to this date.

I don't want to build expectations on anyone or jinx my latest experiment. It seems to be working for me, this is what I did in a random attempt to fix the issue:

I went to Mission Control and unchecked "Displays have separate Spaces" and "Group windows by application"

I restarted, and to my surprise my tablet was not responding. So I downloaded and re-installed the driver 6.3.7-3. Restarted again and try the paintbrush / undo / paintbrush / undo experiment ind it's all good so far now ! I know I'm missing out on a couple of Mavericks features but as long as PS6 doesn't act up I don't mind.

I will post in case of a relapse.

Cause of my problems was Adobe Drive.

I have CS6 Design suite, after spending a week researching a problem (and nothing have worked) i decided to get rid of Adobe drive since i had old version installed (version 4). To my surprise it solved my problem. Creative suite functioned as previously. So to confirm, i have asked a friend of mine who have Adobe CC with adobe drive 4, and had same problems, to uninstall Adobe Drive 4 - it worked, CC worked fast again.

Recently i installed Adobe Drive 5 (latest version), problems started happening again. So i would generally say Adobe Drive is a cause of photoshop, illustrator and indesign issues with exremely slow file loading, smart objects editing and overall lack of responsiveness and freezes.

Adobe Drive is not part of creative suite, it is a free add-on which connects to other DAM systems. FInd an uninstaller in your applications folder (it may be under utylities/adobe installers, not sure since i got rid of it). Uninstall, restart computer and your CS will be as fast as before.

Hope it helps

PS. Reinstalling Adobe CS or CC will not help (we have tried, and tried following adobe rep's suggestion). It doesn't because problem was never CS or CC. Even when you uninstall CS or CC, Adobe Drive still remains installed.

Great that it worked for you !

I don't have Adobe Drive and the freezes keep happening after trying most things in this and other forums. The one thing that has worked best for me is disabling the graphics processor and relaunching, but that comes at a price. I guess i'll have turn it off and on -and relaunch- as required by the project and wait for a real solution.

Can you confirm you are still no longer experiencing any problems? Photoshop is now doing its job properly?

I'm starting to completely lose my patience now. I'm working my way through your list on the higher spec brand new mac book pro retina 15". Deadlines closing In and no such luck yet.

here's what has NOT worked for me so far;

Altering Ps Preferences-Performance settings

Adobe drive install / upgrade / uninstall

Disk Utility repair disk Permissions.

Resetting NVRAM / PRAM (crash seemed to happen even quicker after this)

Reinstalling PS CC now and hoping for the best.

Are people experiencing this problem only experiencing them using duel monitors / tablet monitors?

I've found that PS seems to "spring" back to life after putting my macbook to sleep and removing my tablet monitor. Doesn't help me get my work done though.
