Quick Look not working properly since OS X Mavericks update

Same problem for me, too. None of these delete-directories tricks ever works for me.

I even had this issue on a totally fresh install of OS X 10.9, so I don't know what the problem could be. It's amazingly frustrating, however.

I ended up going into the Genius Bar and spoke with one of their geniuses and he recommended reinstalling the OS. After booting off of one of their network drives with Mavricks installed, it produced the same issue but after installing in an older OS it worked just fine. So the next step is to reformat and do a fresh install then test it out. If the problem still occurs, then it could be an incompatible issue with the video card.

Aside from the problem being in Quick Look, I have noticed the same issue with the white blocks showing up in Preview so its not necessiarily an isolated Quick Look issue.

After I do the install and test I will post the outcome.

I became a Mac user precisely for not having to reinstall anything because of bugs. I don't have time for this.

I expect that it works without having to work on this.

It's amazing how much I rely on QuickLook, I hope they fix this in the up and coming update.

Reinstalling didn't fix it for me, so I would NOT recommend a reinstallation as an attempt to fix the problem! This is also happening on two computers for me (at home and at work). I don't know what the problem is.

After not being able to find a solution to a very slow quick look, I decided to fiddle around.

The solution I found that fixed my problem was to run finder in 32-bit mode.

Go to Folder:

/System/Library/CoreServices/

Get Info for Finder:

Select 32-bit mode

Relaunch Finder

Done

I hope this helps others :-)

This solves the problem for a bit. It's still not reacting instantly, but it's better!

But isn't Finder in 64bit mode for a reason, wouldn't 32bit mode make it a lot less effective at its job, and all for QL?!

Same here, after last update Quicklook is not working properly. Changing to 32bit mode didn't fix it. I'm on 15" Retina Macbook Pro

Unbelieveable! Setting /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder to "open in 32-bit mode" actually solved the QuickLook stalling problem for me on my 2011 iMac and my 2013 iMac!

I wonder what is going on.

I was hoping the new point release would address this but it didn't for me, so I rolled back the 32-bit change (as it never worked for me anyway) and so nothing's changed for me.

When is the root cause for this going to be found, it doesn't seem to be affecting everybody..

Ok guys, I found the solution. It's so simple it made me laugh hard 😀 I was cleaning my external drives and Quick Look was wroking perfectly with all of them, but still, when I was using it with files on my internal drive - same mess as usual.

So what did I do? I opened the Disk Utility (go to Applications/Utilities) - selected the macintosh drive and clicked Repair Permissions. Worked like a charm and now Quick Look is working perfectly again.

Can't believe I didn't figure it out earlier 🙂
