New Retina Macbook pro 13 Haswell system hang/unresponsive

Hello ipadscrewdagain 🙂 Just wondering if you can offer some *brief* advice regarding itunes on the macbook. I'm about to pull the trigger on purchasing one of these 13" retinas (8gig/256gig/i5) and would be using itunes a reasonable amount for movies and other video (maybe a few songs/albums from time to time too).

Not sure exactly what you mean by "forward branch integration into 10.9" but I'm having a guess that the issues you are having is due to having multiple apple machines and versions of itunes and trying upgrade/migrate stuff (or something like that!).. anyway... Just wondering if I will have any issues with my intended use... I dont have any other apple machines at all (and dont plan to in the near future).. and I would be buying a brand new 13" macbook retina with, obviously, itunes and mavericks already on there. I would be wanting to transfer HD movies and other video/movies and songs back and forth from my windows PC (same way I do between my iphone 5 and the windows PC now). I may wish to transfer between the 13" macbook and my iphone 5 too.

The only other "networking" I would be doing is hooking into my home wireless router for internet etc. usage.. occasionally the wireless network at my university or the local coffee shop/library etc.. and also into my iphone 5 when I'm "out and about".

I'm guessing for my intended use, I wouldn't need to worry about the issues you have had to worry about(?)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Surely Windows 8 can't be worse than Vista and I put up with that ****** for years! I'd actually be more comfotable using it as I know my way around Windows better than OSX, although I'm sure It wouldn't take long for me to get aquainted with it. If only I could get a non-touchscreen haswell ultrabook with decent internals running windows 7... but no...

I've been running bootcamp Windows 7 for a week on my 13" rMBP 8/256, it ran like a dream. Yesterday I upgraded it to Windows 8.1 and to be honest I think it looks amazing. Before I bought the rMBP I was in a similar situation to yourself, looking to buy I high spec laptop (didn't particularly want a touch screen device). I decided to go for the rMBP and apart form the initial keyboard/trackpad issue (the EFI fix has resolved this) I have been absolutely delighted with it. Now I have the option to boot to Win 8.1 it has increased my overall experience of this amazing laptop.

Alright, will order mine next week. Really want to give the rmbp 13" a try.

I know this question might be off topic but if you had the chance to go from the i5 to the i7 or from 8 to 16gb ram, which one would you choose? I can only upgrade one. Usage would be sporadic video editing, bootcamp for Windows, amd normal stuff like web surfing etc.

Ordered my Haswell 13" Macbook Pro on November 9, 2013 with the following specs:

• 2.6GHz Dual-core Intel Core i5
• 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
• 512GB Flash Storage

Says the expected delivery date is 12 Dec - 19 Dec... is this because it could be the next batch of Macbooks that adress these issues prior to shipping or just because it's a custom configuration and it takes a while to be shipped from the manufacturing facility?

PS. I know it's not a hardware issue and that it can be solved by the EFI update, but according to some of you, it is only a temporary fix?... just double checking.

I don't have unresponsive trackpad and keyboard problems anymor after the update, but i've been getting so many freezes..anyone else have this problem or is it just me.....i'm getting ****** about spending so much money on this.

Can you give some more detail on what you mean by "freezes"?

e.g.

Does the screen freeze and stay on?
Does the screen go blank/black and computer stays on (power light is on)?
Does the computer just turn itself off and screen goes blank/off too?

Is it only when running certain programs/apps?
What apps are you using when it freezes?

I can move the mouse, but nothing will click. I will close the lid but every thing is still stuck and doesn't go dark and go to sleep mode like it normally does. Force quit shortcut on the keyboard didnt work either. I don't think there was a consistent pattern with the freezes.

Try forcing the system to re-create your systemconfiguration folder.

Open your finder and find the "Go to" panel on the bottom of your screen in the system bar (next to the apple icon on the top left of your screen).

After that hold the option key (alt) and you will see your user library appear there.

Browse it to find the "Preferences" folder and in there you will see the "System Configuration" folder. Rename that folder to anything you'd like - to make sure you have a backup copy in case anything is not re-created and restart the MacBook after that.

I have the same exact problem. I can move the cursor, but clicks on my touch pad and keyboard are not recognized. This is for a late 2009 iMac, 1.2tb fusion drive with 16gb memory, i5. This issue caused me to bite the bullet and buy an SSD for this machine. After repartitioning/reformatting I thought this issue was behind me.

My hunch now is that it's related to flash running in safari. I'm not sure if others have this issue outside of safari, but moving to Chrome temporarily seemed to solve the issued on my previous install. My current install of Mavericks was fine until my wife installed flash today and the machine locked up soon after.

When I get home I'm going to remove flash and see how things are. I think this may have something to do with the backgroud suspending of flash processes in safari. It definitely does not seem to be related to any particular hardware configurations.

I have not participated in this discussion, but I have been influenced by it so I'll relate my experience.

I bought a new 8/256 13" last week and experienced the complete freeze in the first two hours while loading software. After 6 feezes in 3 days, and finding this thread at 136 pages, I returned my machine to the apple store where the salesman said he had never heard of the problem; this surprised me. He claimed I was the first incidence of this problem their store had encountered after I showed him this thread. I was talked into buying another of the same machine, as it is after all is said and done exactly what I actually wanted. I am writing this post on the machine on its 4th day, and there has been no trouble at all. I have loaded almost no software on it, however, as I used time machine to load its predecessor onto the new one. That was painless! I am running Fusion and XP, so I imagine I am taxing the Mac somewhat.

So, perhaps it it a more isolated problem than it looks to be in a thread like this one.

I purchased my 13" macbook pro retina with the haswell processor and I upgraded it to the 2.8Ghz i7 and I upgrade the RAM to 16Gb and I have a 512Gb flash storage. I thought after spending so much on a computer and putting in so many upgrades that I would not need to buy a new computer for a while. Well.... The first week of owning this computer was amazing, it was fast and responsive. Now after owning the laptop for 9 days, I have had multiply crashes, my trackpad gestures are slow and when I transfer from different windows and scroll through pages, the computer feels very slow and unresponsive. I know that Apple will fix this problem soon. I just wanted to let people know because everyone was asking if this was happening to the computers with upgraded components. AND YES IT IS!!

Apple, ive been a long term customer and I know you will fix this problem but I just dont want to wait long.

This happens to me as well, my Macbook Pro Retina 13" Haswell Late 2013 - it hand/froze like 2 time in a day ! This is very frustrating !

A bit long, probably due to the high demand. I ordered mine and got it after like 7-9 days. I have an i7/512GB/16GB and after the EFI update, I have not faced any problems as such. Not even the ghosting problem.

Even this was my first mac. Trust me you won't regret it :-)
