I have met the same problem too!

Mine is also the new macbook pro Haswell.

I have been using my macbook for 2 days.

And I have encountered sudden freeze for 4 times!

The keyboard and the trackpad are unresponsive.

But actually the system is working and the apps are working.

And the power button can actually work.

So every time I met this problem,I long press the power button and make it restart.

And then everything is okay.

Somtimes ,if you wait for 10~15 min, the keyboard and the trackpad will start working again.

When the second time I met this problem, I decided to go to the apple store for help.

But after several mins, it works again.

It is very annoying that the system suddenly freeze when you are busy working on the documents.

And it causes damage that you force to shut down the macbook.

I think it is a software problem?

Hope Apple can release some updates to solve this problem soon!

Would Apple have to do an update for this issue to be resolved? Because mines havent froze up all day but had 4 freezes all together since I purchased it. Granted I wasnt on here for much of the day. Also may I add that when I sopke to Apple tech support yesterday they had me install something called "capture" for them to remotely get data from my laptop, dont know if that helped the problem or not.

I really think that if Apple won't come up with something meaningful, a PR release or a fix in the next 7 days, they are going to be facing thousands of returns.

To me it really seems like a software issue, but I will still return my late 2013 13" rMBP unless we get a fix soon, to make sure I didn't end up with a faulty hardware for $1500.

I would definitely treat this bug/issue as critical, but the fact that Apple Customer Support didn't even find records (at least that's what they claimed a few hours ago) in their database on this, doesn't sound very good to me.

I'm having the same issue on a 512GB SSD/8GB RAM 13" MBPR. I've had it for 5 days and it has lost the keyboard/trackpad 3 times. There is no corelation to being powered or on battery, wifi (or ethernet adapter) on or off. I can't figure out a trigger.

Interesting note though; when I'm at home with it, I have the Teleport preference pane installed and a neighboring Mac can "teleportd" mouse and keyboard control over the network to this MPB just fine in order to restart and get my keyboard and trackpad back. Just now (on the road) I was able to ssh in to my Mac from my phone and do a better restart than simply doing a hard stop with the power button. The machine seems, otherwise, fully responsive. It just won't accept input locally other than the power button. 😟

I have a 2010 October MBA 13". I upgraded to Mavericks within 24 hours of its release. I've been using my MBA every day since then, apprx 10 hours a day, on AC and with just the battery, and have not had the freeze up problem even ONE single time. Nada.

OTOH, I was in the NYC 5th Ave store today, got my hands on a 13" rMBP, was showing one of the Apple people on the floor this thread, and the machine froze up in less than 2 mins. That got his attention! :-)

The guy was truly astonished, and in a very concerned (good) way. He said no one on his team (and this is a HUGE 24/7 Apple store) had mentioned it at all. He was so upset he wanted to leave me right away to go notify his boss, boss's boss, etc.

I am really glad that MacRumors and people generally are starting to acknowledge the problem. It is one of the main things that has stopped me from buying a brand-new, fully loaded 13". It shouldn't be happening, period. It is almost as bad as the two preferences in the Pages build that won't "stick" (i.e., get lost when you close the program).

Hi

I got my nee macbook pro retina 13" 4gb 128gb just four days ago. Keyboard and trackpad freeze all the time and the macbook is also giving me electric shocks.. Doesn't seem like this is how it's supposed to work. I am returning the macbook to the store tomorrow and will receive a new one. I think the new macbook won't give me electric shocks but I do think that the freezing issue will still be present.

It's very disappointing to everyone who bought a new MBP retina and got a MBP with issues. I think it's pretty obvious that it's not a hardware issue so I hope that Apple will solve this issue with an update or so. This is so frustrating!!!!

It has been 3 days now since my last freeze and I've only had 2 freezes in total. Still not sure whether to return it within the 14 days or wait it out..

Apple really needs to respond to these claims. If any of you haven't already please call the apple tech support (1850 96 61 41) and let them know of the issue, the more they receive the faster this issue will be resolved.

I have a previous macbook pro retina (early 2013, 15", 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD), and it has also started freezing mouse/trackpad about once per day since I upgraded to Mavericks.

A few other folks on the last couple pages also reported their older computers (iMacs and retina macbook pro) experienced this after an upgrade to Mavericks.

That's good news, b/c it should mean they can fix it in software. Hopefully they figure it out soon. It's definitely frustrating.

Next time it happens, I'm going to try plugging in an external mouse/keyboard to see if I can recover control.
