Good Point!! I will open a new thread. This thread has good speculation, but no real solutions. Apple reps have been noticably quite on the topic. And yes, the Spinning Wheel of Death (SWOD) issues have been around much longer than the QTKitserver issues. My speculation is the QTKitserver issue(s) is (are) a symptom of a larger problem, the SWOD. The SWOD has been around for a long time. Activity Monitor shows that "luanchd"," sh", "sed", "QTKitserver" and many other spawned processes can freeze window updates and cause the SWOD to appear. Window updating and freezing is not just caused by this one QTKitserver issue. And I'm sure that a 28 year vetren recognizes that buggy code can't trap all these processes, since some of the processes are UNIX processes upon which the Mac OS is built.

So, I agree with you, a new thread is needed to understand where the buggy code exists and what is causing it. This QTKitserver issue is simply a symptom of something more fundamental.

Oh, BTW, my first Mac was an Apple IIc, in 1984.

My 28 years includes 14 years working in IT, on nothing but Apple OS's and hardware. So I say this with a qualified opinion. You clearly have no clue what you are talking about. "Trapped processes"? "Spawned processes"? In what IT world do these exist?

The QTkitserver issue doesn't freeze any "window updates".

Now if you have system reports that back up any of these "claims", I would really enjoy reading them.

But seriously, post in detail what problems you are having, not perceieved conspiracies about Apple code.

launchd and launchservicesd do you mean? Where are you getting your assumptions from? Please post data, not rubbish.

The only time I ever have CPU usage over 60% is when using video converters, or flash on safari. I'm not a gamer, but that will spike CPU.

You must have some serious rubbish installed on your Mac if lauchd services are giving you these spikes in CPU usage.

Again, please provide data, without it, you are just talking utter rubbish. So please, post some data. You hardware, OS, software that causes the issue.

I have participated in the thread for some months now in a constructive matter to no avail. I have also provided input as much as my average skills allowed. And, to be frank: I'm also starting to become a little "unhappy" as there are quite some people really trying to solve the issue but nothing happening on the Apple-side (evidenced by the fact that 10.9.1 did not solve the issue)

I know Apple for 30+ years now and can confirm your statement. However, hope dies last.

No cooling issue on my latest MacMini (as of yet)... 😎

MacBook sits on 4 little silikon bumpers which leaves about 1cm between the bottom and the surface. Thus, that should be OK for air refresh. I know for a fact that the motherboards had a series of faulty production. They missed the heat-transmission paste between the cooling and the Video processor which cooked that one. I'll see how long this MB lasts.

Well, my Mac+ still works (albeit only for some HyperTalk-fun). Bought it in 1986. I have another MacMini (first Intel-Generation) which is my media center and runs 24/7 since 3-4 years without a glitch.

Let me put it like this: Using Apple has always been a bit more expensive for a simple reason: Ease of use and quality.

The existence of a forum like this should alert Apple, since in the past, this has been the privilege of Windows XP-users.

Considering the QTkitserver issue has no impact on CPU or memory, it is only just an annoyance.

I think the suggestion of installing a Windows bootcamp partition is being a bit melodramatic, and stating "it would turn what should be an expensive but amazing computer into a low-class paperweight", a bit over the top under the circumstances. It's not the BSOD, now is it.

Yep. I've heard of people doing that, too. They have totally wiped their hard drive, reinstalled Mavericks and still have the QTKitServer not responding in Activity monitor occasionally. I just don't know the answer. Apple can give me no answers. However, there's no way I'm going back to OS X Mountain. I'm just hoping there will be a bug fix in later updates of OS X Mavericks.

Yeah. It's been hours. I see the QTKitServer continuing to respond, and the process hasn't failed. It keeps hanging in there. It's just sitting there in the black. I think they probably fixed it. I don't know what they did, but it looks like it's working great! I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. I love OS X Mavericks. It's the best OS Apple's ever made. 🙂

this is my problem , and that looks like same with the this communities host.(every time when i open the Safari, my macbook's CPU will be blow up to 100% and CPU temperature will over 70 degree Celsius ,then insane operation for fan )

I have the same thing, and Safari 7 is working for me too. Depending on how you look at it, it's either normal or a bug.

I did a clean install of Mavericks and I am having this problem.
