New rMBP sleep/wake failure crashes

I'm using the new Retina MacBook Pro running Mavericks, and in the short span I've used it I've encountered a problem multiple times where the machine crashes during sleep. (I also tend to leave my WD external hard drive plugged in, if that makes any difference.)

I have two error logs, but since they are quite lengthy I have made them viewable in this Evernote:

Again I'm not a troll. When I signed up for this account it told me every name I wanted was taken so I got frustrated and used the suggested. I know it's ridiculous. So now I can't figure out how to change it. Oh well.

Again I am just repeating what was told to me. The sleep wake failure I'm experiencing is only happening with usb hard drives attached as well. I really hope apple fixes this soon. It's very annoying. I'm still going to go talk to a Genius and see what they say

Do please report back what the Genius bar has to say. I'll be swinging by one in two weeks (I never realized how nice it was to have until I moved to an island without one).

...and FWIW faslkdjfalskdjfalskdfj, I get it, try having a name like Jon Brown... I'm @jb510 nearly everywhere, but increasingly I am running into that being taken or too short and there are plenty of times I just wanted to bang on the keyboard and take whatever came out.

I posted a couple of days or so back that I reinstalled Mavericks, on alll systems) and I am still not seeing any of my Sleep/Wake crash reports! please see below for my earlier message posted 29/11/2013.

Those of you with more than system running Mavericks may not wish to keep downloading Mavircks, I also add (or you can just google), "how to make a bootable copy of mavericks" below are the links I used.

I think I may have a tentative workaround

One thing I "think" may have helped is a reinstall, (not fresh install) of Mavericks just yesterday and I am yet to see any reoccurence on the MacAir or MacBook Pro although Mr iMAC is still creating the USB mounting issue..... good luck and please continue to update your findings so others can be helped too!

I think we should all try every option available to remedy this issue instead continuning to "moan" about it, please note further this is a reinstall from the App Store, nor an "internet recovery install" nor a fresh install.

I'm having the exact same issues with my new rMBP 15" 2013. After my investigation I can narrow the problem down to the "Power Nap" functionality.

1) "Power Nap" on: the laptop restarts during standby mode. upon opening the lid, I am greeted with the message "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

2) "Power Nap" off: the laptop's screen keeps blank upon opening the lid. The only way to recover from this state is to force a restart by holding the power button for 10 seconds.

Both cases may result in lost data...

It does not seem to be affected by:

1) Connected USB devices

2) Running applications

Because I am still in my 90 days support window, I contacted Apple Care twice, they suggested the following
1) Reset SMC

2) Reset PRAM

3) Disable "Wake for Wi-Fi network access" in the power settings

4) Run OSX in save mode (holding shift while booting up)

5) Run the Disk Utility stuff...

... which means: they have no idea what to do about this problem and just recommend all the standard procedures.

I am 99% sure that this problem happens due to a software bug in Maverick's "Power Nap" mode.

Dec 2, 2013 7:19 AM in response to KumoLumo

I have called back the superior technical department. Their recommendation is to restore clean Mavericks back using "alt + CMd + R and delete all partitions" not "cmd + R

If the problem persists told me to ask for a new unit to change mine.

I think the problem is software.

Someone has already changed some unit and it keeps happening the same???

Hi there,

I had the same issue with my new retina macbook pro 15" early november. Reinstalled the system from crash, still there. Could not decide whether it was software or hardware/firmware related. Apple quickly exchanged the computer and the problem now _looks_ solved.

I am not anxious about seeing the problem occuring again with the replacement machine: if it happens again, that would almost definitely prove that the problem is software related, or a widespread hardware issue. In both cases, it is highly probable that Apple will provide a workaround very soon.
