My Canon MX700 won't scan either. I've downloaded drivers and software to no avail. I emailed Canon support to see if they have any ideas.

Have you tried deleting and re-adding the printer? Scanning from Preview or Image Capture?
I haven't figured out how to delete and re-add the printer but in trying to research it, I opened the printer from the dock and was able to click on the scanner in that window and it would scan. When I retried the MP Navigator EX 1.0, I had the same issue as before of the dialog box opening and disappearing instantly and a "Report Problem for MP Navigator EX" window opening. I'd really rather get rid of Mavericks. My router isn't working with the TV since the upgrade. Seems more of a downgrade. I guess you get what you pay for...

That means the MP Navigator software is crashing. Use Preview or the method you used.
To delete the printer, go to Printers & Scanners Prefs, select the printer, and click "-".
Hope this helps.
Well ~ I went to https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5230863 , as suggested, and followed the advice. When I went to find the Canon driver, I received the message "There is no driver for the OS Version you selected. The driver may be included in your OS or you may not need a driver." So, I downloaded the most recent downloadable version of the Canon printer driver (for OS X Lion 10.7) - and followed the instructions in the link. Still nothing (my Canon MP600 will print, but not scan).
I would like to try John Blanchard1's idea of deleting the printer, but when I go to Preferences and "select" the printer, then press the "-" key, nothing happens. I'm sure I'm missing something from your instructions?!
The first time I went to scan something after downloading Mavericks, I got an error message suggesting that something was wrong (I can't remember the exact language), and asked if I wanted Mavericks to fix it. I said yes. Then I came here and posted my original question!
Really appreciate the advice ~ thanks so much.
Thanks John. Canon Support sent me detailed instructions on how to delete and reinstall my printer and it worked. Any thoughts on a router that says it doesn't support my OS? Does deleting and reinstalling work for that? I contacted Cisco and they charge $30 for one time support so I'm trying to figure it out myself.
PS ~ how do you open the printer from the dock? At least I could scan something that way?
Thanks candacefae ~ guess my next stop is Canon Support!
Nera- I just uninstalled and reinstalled on my Pixma MX 700 using the instructions below from Canon Support. It worked for me so maybe you'd like to try it (adjusting for your model). -Candace
Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers should resolve this issue. Please perform the following to remove the currently installed drivers: (If any items are not listed, move on to the next step.)
1. Open the hard drive (Macintosh HD).
2. Open the 'Library' folder.
3. Open the 'Printers' folder.
4. Open the 'Canon' folder.
5. Send the 'BJ Printer' folder to the trash.
6. Return to the 'Library' folder.
7. Open the 'Receipts' folder.
8. Locate any items related to your printer and send them to the trash. However, leave the 'Canon Printer Drivers.pkg' file in the folder if it happens to be listed.
9. Return to the 'Library' folder.
10. Open 'Image Capture'.
11. Open the 'Twain Data Sources' folder.
12. Send any Canon files related to your printer to the trash.
13. Open the Applications folder.
14. Open the Canon Utilities folder.
15. Send the MP Navigator to the trash.
16. Restart your computer.
17. Empty the trash.

5-2. For OS 10.6 or later, click on the MX700 series CUPS printer driver.
6. Read the License Agreement on the next page, and if you agree, click on 'I Agree - Begin Download' at the bottom.
7. Save the file to your computer using the options in your web browser.
8. Once the download is complete, go back to the top and click on the 'Support & Service' tab and then click on the 'Drivers & Downloads' tab.
9. Choose your version of Mac OSX from the Operating System drop down boxes.
10. Under the Drivers listing, click on the MX700 series Scanner Driver.
11. Read the License Agreement on the next page, and if you agree, click on 'I Agree - Begin Download' at the bottom.
12. Save the file to your computer using the options in your web browser.
13. Once the download is complete, go back to the top and click on the 'Support & Service' tab and then click on the 'Drivers & Downloads' tab.
14. Choose your version of Mac OSX from the Operating System drop down boxes.
15. Under the Software listing, click on the IJ Network Tool.
16. Read the License Agreement on the next page, and if you agree, click on 'I Agree - Begin Download' at the bottom.

21. Double click the downloaded IJ Network Tool. Open the installer package to begin the setup.
Once this process is complete, try printing to test the unit. Then return to our website to download the MP Navigator for scanning.
AWESOME ~ thanks so much!
I'm sorry, Candacefae, I don't have any ideas about the router other than to suggest that maybe Cisco has some sort of similar discussion boards where users have offfered solutions. Or Google? Perhaps others are having the same problem?
Hadn't thought of Google. Thanks for the idea!
Nera, once you have added your printer in Printers & Scanners Prefs, double click on it. That will put it in the dock.
Another way is to use the Scan tab to the right of the printer. Hit Scan, then Open Scanner.
Hope this helps.
I just learned from researching the Canon site that MP600 is not compatible with Mavericks. Great! This is seriously bad news for me as we are currently living in Brazil, blah blah. Does anyone know if it is possible to "downgrade" Mavericks to the Lion version?
