Maverick and Canon MP600 printer/scanner

I upgraded to Maverick, but now I cannot scan with my Canon MP600 and no drivers are available for this upgrade. Help!

My Canon MX700 won't scan either. I've downloaded drivers and software to no avail. I emailed Canon support to see if they have any ideas.

I uninstalled all Canon drivers and applications, as explained by candacefae,

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5501655?start=0&tstart=0

I downloaded the drivers and MP Navigator for OSX 10.7 Lion,

and installed them on my OSX 10.9 Mavericks, as suggested.

MP Navigator still crashes, and Preview and Image Capture do not detect the scanner.

I've tried this in two Mac OSX 10.9 computers, and both fail.

Instead, it works perfectely using VueScan.

I don't want to buy VueScan just for scanning, it is ridiculous,

I already payed for the scanner which should include the drivers and applications to make it work.

How to make MP Navigator or Image Capture work?

Regards,

David

I'm so sorry to hear that others are still having problems with this issue. If it is any help, it is MP Navigator 3.0 that finally worked for me with 10.9 Mavericks upgrade and my Cannon MP600 printer (downloaded April 2006). Before the Mavericks upgrade, I accessed my MP600 through the "printer/scanner" option in "System Preferences", but now I must go directly to MP Navigator 3.0 via "Finder" and "applications". Hope this helps.

Hi dportabella2

The link you posted is for version 3.0, you need to go to the link that PhilipChe posted, which is for version 3.05...I've tried copying their link below hopefully it works for you.

MP Navigator Ver. 3.0.5 (OS X 10.8)

(His original post is on the previous page if it doesn't)

It's incredibly frustrating I know. I spent hours not understanding why it wouldn't work for me, whilst reading others success stories, but it really does work with 3.05. I had version 3.04 with mavericks and it kept crashing like you. The version numbers are so similar it's hard to spot.

Best of luck, hope you get it working!!

it works, thanks! 🙂

so, using "MP Navigator Ver. 3.0.5 (OS X 10.8)" works on my OSX 10.9.

I wonder why this software, "MP Navigator Ver. 3.0.5 (OS X 10.8)", is available on

http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/products/Fax__Multifunctionals/ InkJet/PIXMA_MP_series/PIXMA_MP600R.aspx

and not on

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_s eries/pixma_mp600#DriversAndSoftware

ps: my scanner is MP600, not MP600R.

but it works anyway.

thanks!

Thank you Philip, that link and advice for MP Navigator fianlly solved my MP600R Scanning woes! ... ➕➕➕

Genius, especially after Canon themselves wrote to me and confirmed it was no longer possible to Scan with my MP600R since the Mavericks update - how wrong are they!

And there is no way I was going to fork out to VuScan for the facility - it is almost as cheap to buy a new printer... 😟

Many thanks to you and everyone else here for the extremely helpful and invaluable advice, it is much appreciated by us lesser mortals... 🙂

All the best,

Rog... 😎

Hi,

After a disk crash😟, and Mavericks reinstall + reinstall from TimeMachine on a remote disk including system (couldn't do all in one step without a genuine TimeCapsule), my working setup for printing @ scanning with MP600 was broken.

I thus had to reinstall everything. And rage against Apple+Canon for such a lousy situation😠: I had quit Linux in 2004 for such driver problems, but this is even worse, as Canon and Apple gladly announce they are compatible!

Anyway, after this long thread, let me try a summary of what is needed on a freshly installed machine (to get into that state, see candaface post

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5501655?start=0&tstart=0)

For Printing with MP600 you only need the CUPS printer driver, version 10.67.1, that can be found on Canon uk here:

MP600R CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.2.0 (OS X 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8)

(I know, the name also says mcpd-mac-mp600r-10_67_2-ea11.dmg but the true version is 10.67.1; and it works for OS X 10.9)

Then:

- open the .dmg, click on the package to install it,

- connect the printer via USB,

- go to System perfs -> Printers & Scanners and add a printer (+ sign),

- select MP600R driver from the list

In the printer list, you should now see an nice icon with a green-blue printed page sticking out 🙂

Wow. THANKS candacefae(and others)! This was the perfect thread to stumble upon. It kept me from throwing my MP600 out the window AND from buying a new one! 😎

Just got a brand new iMac and realized I couldn't print. First things first. I downloaded the MP600R print driver--thank you Orj. Printing worked! ✅

But still no scanning. ✖ The MP Navigator I had "sorta worked" but there was no preview and it quit sometimes. I looked and sure enough it was 3.04. I downloaded 3.05, installed it but I would get an error that the driver was not found. I used the link from kakikuneko above to download the scanner driver and it didn't work. Groan. I was SO close. BUT, I realized that driver was for the MP600R, and mine was just the MP600. SO...back to the US site and downloaded this link: http://www.usa.canon.com/nw3s/CanonUSA/DownloadContents/English/0900220201EN.htm . Success! ✅

Notice the added "a" in the MP600R filename? Don't make the same mistake I did.

MP600R: msd_-mac-mp600r-12_13_3a-ej7.dmg

MP600: msd_-mac-mp600-12_13_3-ej7.dmg

The scanner driver is apparently different enough that the MP600R version doesn't support the MP600. BUT, the MP600R printer driver works great! Go figure. dportabella, I am with you...WHY OH WHY is the 3.05 MP Navigator software not on the US site? Here's to the world community!

I'll battletest this and make sure it keeps working, but I'm happy as a clam right now. I'll have to change my scanning methods from using Preview, but this works and I don't scan everyday, so I'll be fine. I just bought some extra ink, so was dreading not being able to finish it up!

Thanks again, everybody! 🙂
