iPhone keeps disconnecting from Mac

Since upgrading to Mavericks, I have been unable to sync devices (specifically ipad mini and iphone 4s) to my MId 2013 Macbook Air. They wil rapidly connect and disconnect, and I'm unable to do anything with the device. This happens with both USB ports. Any suggestions?

The solution is as follows:

  1. (Make a backup)
  2. Shutdown
  3. Connect your macbook with power (otherwise this won't work)
  4. SMC-reset (power management)
    1. Hold for 15 seconds: cmd + alt + shift + power
    2. If you have a MacBook with a magsafe adapter thats fully charged you will see the light change from green to orange for less than a second this means the reset has succeeded.
  5. VRAM reset (also known as PRAM reset if I'am not mistaken)

Power on and immediately pres and hold: cmd + alt + p + r. This wil restart the machine, hold these buttons until the machine has tried to bootup two or three times then let go.

The problem could comeback but just use this 2 minute trick and your good to go.

Please let me know of this worked for you!

My hardware: MacBook Pro 15 inch 2015 (fully spect). Had this problem with: iPad 2017, Iphone 7+, Ipad 4, Iphone 6. All works well after this reset.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

I can't belive after all these years NO ONE has ever figured out the fix. I DID figure it out though just yesterday, the REAL fix. It's NOT the cable, and it's NOT a software issue!

It's the 3-prong plug! I can't believe I didn't figure this out sooner and to think I have been a mac user for 10+ years. Haha! I have been using the two-prong (US standard) plug and I don't know, for some reason, the issue occurs when I am using the two-prong plug. It could be because of the 'ground' prong provides a more stable charge? I could be too sure as I am not an electrician, but my solution to switching to the 3-prong plug seemed to have worked for me.

Let me know if this fixed your issue too.

Try to plug in directly to the wall outlet. I also experience the discon/recon issue even with the three prong, but it has improved so much. It doesn’t happen as often. But it seems to happen even less (or not at all) when I’m plugged in directly to the wall outlet. I feel more and more sure it has something to do with the power plug. Or perhaps it’s a combination of the quality of the lightning cable, the stability of the power source and the usb port. Also try changing your mac’s power cable, or macbook charger.

I know this does not make any sense, but i tried 5 different ORIGINAL cables and none worked in any of the 2 USB ports. I then tried another brand of cable (acker) I stretch it all the way and once it connected i DID NOT MOVED IT until it was done. And it worked !!! So like I said it does not make any sense at all as 2 of the OEM apple cables where brand new and just got them out of the iPhone box and had NEVER been used before. So the only advice I can give you is: try all different ways of fixing it and don't give up too quick, maybe (only maybe) you will be able to do it.
