Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

I like you have been waiting for 7.1 and also avoiding the non productive "back and forths and insults" that have been plaguing this discussion for months.

My problems were always "back to the desktop" - no total crashes back to the boot screen although I had one iPad freeze.

The problems occurred with:

1) Double tapping "wallpaper"

2) visiting the site "machinerywarehouse.com" and choosing "Miscellaneous"

3) Using Apples own website to find a reseller the clicking "next" to load more stores.

I have had a rewplacement iPad from Apple some months ago that didn't fix the problem. I also did a number of total restores through iTunes then reloaded all the Apps (big pain!!) that didn't fix the problems.

I had no problems with 9to5, whether portrait of landscape, or with iTunes.

Since 7.1, I have only been able to Crash the iPad back to desktop with the nin.com site as mentioned on this site. I turned javascript off, as you suggested, and nin.com loads fine. I have had no other problems. I am not on the iPad all the time, rather a casual user when I am away from my desk and need to access the Internet and at home but, unlike some others that have commented, my battery life is excellent.

I guess time will tell but at this point in time I'm happy with 7.1

BTW, I was speaking to Apple support on the phone two days before 7.1 was released and asked them about it and they said they knew nothing about a pending OS update release - go figure??

Cheers

I'm very disappointed! Upgraded to iOS 7.1 my iPad Air. Not also safari crash (when I try to zoom in and out a page) but also reloaded pages like before! The man of support who guarantee he will continue to follow me until my problem is solved doesn't reply at my mails from a month so I'm very unhappy also with a support that leave me with a defective product OR software (I don't know which of two are the problem!) for at least 4 month!

@smurf you should call back apple and give them the case number. Perhaps he's using an iPad for checking emails and it's crashing while he reads them. The problem is not fixed! Games like The Simpsons Tapped Out crash to the home screen, something that did not happen in the earlier betas which I have been testing since the early versions.

IOS 7.0 for iPad was an early alpha. iOS 7.1 is still a beta release, the fact that apple didn't release a GM before and the beta 5 was left unpatched for the security issue that spawned the 7.0.6 update. Now that the next version of iOS is in the works, I don't expect any permanent fixes any time soon.

It's time to do a factory reset. Forstall must be laughing his head off at Jony.

I recently setup and used a Surface 2 for a client. It's a solid tablet with multitasking and internet explorer doesn't crash either. Sure nothing beats ios ecosystem for apps, but if you're looking for something decent, and geared for productivity , it's a viable alternative that isn't android.

I sold my iPad Air due to the constant crashes...

I bought a Windows tablet. The iPad is much quicker when loading websites, nicer interfaces, better Apps etc etc... But the Win-tablet is rock solid and you can have lots of tabs and programs open without crashes and reloads! The Win-tablet is more for productivity and it´s not that toy-like.

I think the next iPad Air will be great and usable if Apple introduce more RAM.

After trying out ios7.1 for number of days now I must say this a huge improvement. It still crashes once in a while but that is not an issue anymore. Nothing is perfect in this world. I do wish there was more ram because memory is constantly running low. I also wish iPads had memory card slot but knowing how stingy Apple is with memory that is just wishful thinking.

I'll give credit where credit is due. Apple engineers did a great job improving this operating system however this should have been done when this device was first launched. This would have avoided millions of customer dissatisfaction.

Update: After living with the iOS 7.1 update for 6 days now, I am pleased to report that it has fixed the main problem that was driving me nuts in iOS 7. Safari no longer crashes constantly--between my iPad Air and iPhone 5 it has crashed maybe a couple or three times, but I consider that normal performance since no human device is 100% perfect. (I haven't gotten around to installing it on my iPad 2 as the Air is now my primary iPad for daily use.) I have tested it with sites (i.e., heavy graphic content, embedded videos, etc.) and actions (i.e., fast scrolling or zooming) that used to reliably cause crashes, and they no longer do.

I still notice some more minor problems, e.g., sometimes I still get constant refreshing of Safari tabs, occasionally Safari has logged me out of sites in the background when multi-tasking to other apps, and those things seem to happen more when you dare to have more than a handful of tabs open at a time. But these issues are less frequent than before and much less troublesome than the multiple daily crashes I previously experienced. So, overall, I am pleased.

I'm still highly disappointed that Apple released iOS 7 with such major bugs in the first place and then took nearly half a year to fix it. In particular, I'm still bummed that my iPad Air did not work properly right out of the box, and is now only doing so nearly four months later, after the new has worn off. After this experience, I'll be less excited and eager for the next new Apple product. Apple, thank you for finally fixing this, but please learn from this experience and never repeat such a fiasco again.

Well, this will probably be my final word on this, unless something unusual comes up. Yes, 7 still crashes occasionally, but it's into the realm of 6 now. For those of you who weren't paying attention to ios6, it crashes occasionally as well. My wife's log on our ipad4 notes about a dozen crashes over the past couple of months, and logs "low memory" on pretty much a daily basis.

So, for those of you who would have us believe Apple is garbage, go pound Samdung. Go get your 2GB Ice Cream Cone or whatever. I happen to believe this is the best engineered and built tablet on the market today. And now the OS is finally catching up to realize the hardware's potential.
