Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

That is exactly what I did when I got ipad air on November 1. Since my backup data was over 6 months old and ipad air being 64 bit, I decided to start fresh. Hard wired to computer with iTunes, set up as new ipad, and installed apps one be one. It's crashing left and right. I would close all apps, delete safari data, hard reset, then only open safari with one tab open to 9to5 web site (article about how good ipad air is) and it crashes even when I'm slowly scrolling down. Sometimes it crashes 3 seconds after opening to that web page. I think that web site is intended to be viewed from computer or any other devise except for ipad air. Author was clearly aiming for non ipad air owners.

Sorry it's not working out for you. Since I am one of the few on this tread who has a "fixed" Air, I will try to list or show how mine is used. Currently only about 250 photos, more then 300 bookmarks, 79 Apps, 50 plus PDF's in iBooks. Normally I receive only about 30 emails a day. I surf maybe 7 favorite websites, 5 or 6 times a day. Ebay is one site that crashed frequently prior to the "fix". I have usually 15 to 20 watched items. Most of the time photos are taken with my iPhone 4S or my professional camera. Very little photography with the Air. I use my Air to build and edit my WordPress website. I watch movies and television shows. I do video phone calls. That's about it on the Air. I do heavier work on my desktop.

I hope Apple will address this issue if it's wide spread. We are a small group, about 70 of us so far, reporting this problem on this tread. And yes there are other forums reporting this problem also. Apple has sold millions of Air's thus far, maybe it's only affecting a few, otherwise those millions out there are a silent majority, or maybe they don't think to report, or they accept the problem, or just maybe the majority of Air's are just fine, I don 't know. I will keep an open mind to the problem.

Etype2 can you check this for me on your fixed air please?

Reset the air in the usual way so nothing is running.

Hold the air in landscape mode.

Open iTunes app.

Open the movies section.

Pick a movie to preview - one that is HD - superman for example.

Open the preview.

Watch a few seconds.

Stop the preview and move into the TV section for preview.

Open a tv show preview.

Go back to movies.

Now my ipad air, my wife's ipad air, my sons ipad air and every single unit in my local Apple store on display crashes iTunes during this process - some sooner than others.

If this doesn't happen on yours then it seems we may have identified a batch hardware issue and not a software bug.

If this is the case then good news because we can (those with the defect) all return our airs and find out which serials are related to the batch of bad airs.

Thanks!

Matt

I finally returned my 4th replacement iPad Air and purchased an 11 inch MacBook Air. I spoke to the manager of the Apple store and told him I have the same low memory issues. They gave me a full refund including the purchased Apple Care and deducted the amount from my purchased MacBook Air. I decided to do this because I don't plan to purchase an iPad anytime soon. I've been burned by the iPad Air. I also listened to one of your advices to let others know about this issue. Sure enough the manager denied having any complaints about iPad Air's low memory issues. I did a video about this that way other consumers will know our nightmare. I only used my iPad 2 and did a YouTube video capture this morning and I posted it here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0JAkACZjwg&feature=c4-overview&list=UUX_qCnp39-- PQCk2bafu8mg

The iTunes app on my ipad Air crahes when I try viewing movie trailers on it.

I replaced my first iPad Air for this same reason, and the 2nd device does the same thing.

I called AppleCare and we tried retoring the ipad twice, but it did not help. The 2nd restore was this evening, and we set it up as a new device (only with the native Apple apps, no 3rd party apps on it), but still the problem persists. The senior advisor was baffled! He said it may be an ios problem or hardware issue.

Tonight he emailed a Capture Data app for my Mac, we ran it with my iPad connected to the Mac... it captured the error logs etc. I emailed the data capture files to him. He is sending the info to Engineers, and I should hear back Monday evening. He was very good to deal with (the first senior advisor never followed up with me). I told him, if this can't be fixed within the next week, I want a full refund. I don't want the ipad air if this issue can't be resolved.

Stay tuned!

Just back from the "Genius" Bar where they did a complete erase and re-install. The guy, at first, gave the impression that this was a new problem to him but later inferred (without really saying anything definite) that it was a problem with OS7 and Safari. When I told him of all the posts on this site re the same problem he said said that people needed to come into the store and register the problem and inferred that Apple took more notice of in-store feedback that forum posts. During general conversation with him and another "Genius" the impression I got was that is was a known problem and Apple were working on a fix.

Its amazing how they can say very little but hint alot 🙂

Anyways, I was sent away with a new install and told to monitor and get back if the problem occurred again.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but there is a bug in iTunes, where it crashes in landscape mode, there's a separate discussion for that somewhere else, but, could be what's effecting some users here too. We have two ipad airs in our house, and both are fine apart from the iTunes crash issue (which apparently is on most, if not all Airs). Apples is aware of the issue, and looking for a fix.
