Ipad air low memory crash

I came to this forum to see if other ipad air owners are experiencing same problem with low memory crashing as I do but seems like I'm one of the few people have this. So far I have 10 low memory crash reports. I also have about 30 more crash reports but it's from various apps. I got my ipad air on the launch day, second in line, here in California. Maybe I just have a defective one, I don't know. If you have same issues, please reply so I can determine if I should return it or just live with it. Closing apps every day is a hassle. I wish Apple just put in extra gig of ram. Overall, I am extremely happy with my ipad. There are so many good this things to mention about this ipad but this is wrong thread to do that.

Good news!

The senior advisor from Apple called me back this evening. He's been GREAT to deal with. He confirmed that the error logs collected by using the iPhone Configuration Utility and previous error logs using the Capture Data app were most useful, and the Engineers are aware that the iTunes app for iOS 7 is flawed, which in turn causes the app to crash and other system instabilities. They are aware of the wider imapct this is having with other users. This is not a hardware problem, but rather a software bug, and it will be fixed in a future iOS update. However, the timing of the fix is not yet determined since they are investigating the approriate solution. He assured me that it is fixable. The decision for us is to wait or refund the ipad and wait for the fix.

Cheers

Just received my new ipad today. I haven't opened it because it was a present from my wife, but I am not real comfortable not testing it out for two weeks. I feel a little better since this post, as an update might fix this mess. Guess I will wait until Christmas morning, then test the heck out of it before my January 12th return deadline.

I was finally able to reproduce the crash on my iPad Air wifi model. Mine crashed three times.

The good news

The crash was limited to two apps - the iTunes app and the Safari app. I was multi-tasking so its possible the iTunes app crashed Safari or Safari crashed iTunes. I never had a crash with other browser apps. So, when Safari crashed I just opened the same webpage in Mercury or Opera mini (free apps) and continued reading. It worked.

I can't reproduce the crash without following the instructions in this thread - landscape in iTunes (United Kingdom), loading iTunes homepage (others, Italy?) and/or using Safari.

Everything else works. I'd say over 99% of my iPad Air works normally. Nothing else is an issue.

The technical news

The crash is minimal. It doesn't lose data, cause system-wide instability, force a re-install of an app or O/S, or compromise any other app. When the crash happened for me, the app closed, I saw an Apple logo in the center of my screen, and five seconds later I saw my home page. I loaded Safari again, all my open six tabs were still there, and nothing was lost. All the addresses in my tabs were intact. I've seen major crashes and blue screens on Microsoft terminals - *that* is a major crash.

I crashed on a website with only simple text - no video, sound or animations.

This is premature to say, but I haven't been able to crash using other browsers than Safari. Maybe it will. If it does, I'll let you know.

The crash has been a soft reset.

iTunes loading times

iTunes has been miserably slow. I have to wait ten minutes before it loads the home page. Sometimes it crashes, and then I click on the iTunes app again and it loads normally - even in landscape. The slow loading could be my wifi, traffic at peak hours, or a buggy and memory hogging app/website.

Refund or a keeper?
If something else goes wrong, I would contact Apple for a refund or replacement or some software update.
My theory is a software update from Apple will solve this problem. iOS or app update. It looks really good. SteveCDA is probably providing the best diagnostic info. to Apple, so it's only a matter of time.

Battery Life
Unbelieveable battery life. I was online for over forty-five minutes and only used 5% of my battery. The ten to thirteen hours of use without a charge looks realistic.

I've just about had enough of this. My ipad3 crashed out of pretty much everything but the worst offender seemed to be the Simpsons tapped out game so I didn't really make a big deal about it. Just bought a brand new iPad Air 128gb 3G/wifi and the chat app crashes 20-50 times a day.

No amount of soft or hard reboots fix it. I'm just about ready to frisbee this @@@@ing thing back into the nearest apple store. This should not be happening on a brand new, top model, £700 piece of kit!!!!!!!!

I havent bought an iPad air yet, I have an iPad 3 and its been working well. I didnt learn about the diagnostics area till reading these posts. But after checking my diagnostics area on my ipad 3 its shows low mwmory crashes to several apps, mainly news apps like CNN safari has not crashed yet but i havent tried facebook or twitter yet. Al the web sites I visit doesnt cause a soft restart at least not as yet

After reading all 31 pages of this forum I have changed my mind about buying an iPad Air till this matter is fully resolved. Im sorry for all of those that are having this issue you all spent a lot of money and deserve to have a perfectly working device. These things aren't cheap. I hope Apple does the right thing and makes what ever the cause of the problem whether it be software or hardware , right with each and every one of you

I will continue to follow this thread and will hope a fix will come soon if its possible to fix

best regards

It looks like an OS-wide problem with OS 7.0.3 or 7.0.4 or a software problem with an app.

It'd be good if it was the iTunes app or Safari app or App store app and some code in the iTunes store. The problem is it looks more like an OS update issue.

That scares me. That means apps that work today might not work tomorrow after the OS is updated.
Not good.

I don't work for Apple.

I definitely think it's ios 7.0.4 update. I kept getting crashes on my ipad mini and I ended up getting it replaced. I had no crashes on 7.0.3. Then I updated to 7.0.4 and then my safari crashed. Its seems the only solution is to try to downgrade the ios to the older version 7.0.3 and see if it fixes your issues. If you haven't updated to the latest ios 7 update, then wait until a fix is made with a new update. I just hope something is done to fix it because, it's making me, not want to update any of my software on my apple devices. I don't really use safari much on my iphone 5, but I loved surfing the web with my ipad mini and now its pretty much useless unless I could find a way to downgrade software update.

You can probably surf the web on your iPhone 5 without any issues if you use another browser, like Mercury, Opera Mini (both I use), or Chrome or some other browser app, all of them free.

Some users complain apps don't work after an OS update. What do you do if your favorite app is deleted from the iTunes/App Store and you can't get it to work on an updated OS?

The reason why I used safari in the first place because it was a supposed to be the stable browser. I tried other browsers but I always came back to safari. I'm hoping there will be an updates to fix this issue. Right now, I'm trying a clean install of the iOS with a DFU and hoping it reduces the problem, or I have to try to clear safari history.

Maybe it is better to still sit on the fence for the time bean. I read first 20 something pages of this thread and still placed the order. I received unit (32GB) from China last Friday. It is on IOS 7.03, I did not wanted to update to 7.0.4

It was appearing that all is good, but I did not wanted to test famous "9to5," so yesterday I finally tried and managed to scroll through entire page without any hick-ups. I thought that being on 7.03. was making difference. Tonight I just tried again half dozen times, loading the "9t05" page works no problems while scrolling up an down, but the text was kind of small, so I went to enlarge the page, and it happened, Safari crushed, I am not getting Apple logo, it just send me back to desktop. Tried over and over again and it happens over and over again.

Boy did I wanted to love this gadget, I had an iPad 3, it was my fist and I fall in love with it, no other PC based laptop did bring me such joy on +12 long-haul flights, watching the movies on the iPad was like having a personal mini-me Panasonic Plasma VT or ZT series panle in my lap, but I made mistake to sell it and I bought the Air.

I am a PC/Windows/Android guy in IT, I dropped Android after 4-5 years and bought my first iPhone 5s, I wanted to have one ecosystem for phone and tablet, it appears that I am keeping phone and Apple have till January 6th to resolve iPad crushes, if hey are IOS related, I do not know what cause the problems, but I am returning it to the store on the January 6th if it is not resolved and I will wait another year and then buy fixed version of Air.

Good luck to all of in this boat!
