Apple mail does not sync with gMail

Updated, went in and removed the new mail files and renamed the .old files to previous extetions. Then restarted and it works.

Thought it was working after 10.9.2 update, but now it doesn't seem to be... again.

Delete a bunch of emails from one inbox... switch to another inbox... switch back, and all the emails I just 'deleted' are back. 😟

Read about the differences between Pop and Imap email systems:

pop is getting email from your server on your computer, imap is synchronizing between your server and your computer.

In 10.9.2 the gmail issues are gone. You are the first that it does not work, maybe it is something in the settings (on the compter and also on the server). Or maybe the cause is something else.

I upgraded to 10.9.2, and have some of the same problems with Mail as I have had with the other 2 versions of Mavericks. Mail still does not work correctly with Labels from Gmail. I am not going to take the time to watch my 2 Macs with Mail open and Gmail open in Safari to see if email messages get synched properly.

During the time that Mail has been broken, I began using Airmail. It is an excellent program and has dependably worked in providing me with all my email so I could stop complaining about Mail and get back to work. When I found a feature that was not included in Airmail, I emailed the company, and they responded quickly with a workaround and a commitment to include the missing feature in the next release. This level of responsiveness is what I would have expected from Apple.

I must say, I've done the same. I stopped for two days to try out 10.9.2, but I've had it, I'm going back to Airmail. The only feature I miss is the coloured flags.

Clearly the gmail issues ar NOT gone across the board, based on the responses I'm seeing here. I'm certainly not the only one who is still experiencing sync issues...

Agreed, not gone. My MacBook Pro took 30 minutes and lots of hacking just to get it to sync up, and then it refused to pick up new messages. Gone back to Airmail on both computers and all is good again.

I hate to say it, but I have to join the league of "I thought they fixed it..." Really disappointed to have to say that too.

After less than 24 hours, Mail.app stopped working properly. It would not show mail in one folder, that was working fine yesterday.

So, I decided to join the league of AirMail users and, to be honest, I am really impressed. So far it's a great looking app, was really easy to set and seems to work great. More than I can say for Mail.app.

There is one thing I have noticed, maybe it is just me. I have two MacBook Pro's, one personal and one for work. I updated my personal one to Mavericks and I'm having the Mail.app issue on this one. The work MacBook Pro came with Mavericks pre-installed and that Mail.app works perfect, not issues at all, not before and not now.

Anyone else notice this same issue?

I too have Mail.app on an iMac and MacBook Pro, and while the MacBook worked well "more often", a week ago it just packed it in and had more problems with Mail.app than I can handle.

I have two Macbooks, one at work (late 2012) and one at home (mid-2009). Obviously neither came preloaded with Mavericks, which was released later.

The work Macbook never had Mail.app issues after Mavericks.

The home Macbook has had endless annoying Mail.app issues ever since I installed Mavericks.

Both had identical settings for the same gmail and exchange accounts. This is one reason I tend to get annoyed when people on this thread and elsehwere blamed the user or the settings. It's the app, not the user.

Anyway, since installing the 10.9.2 update, Mail.app on the home Macbook appears to be working for now. Time will tell...

My Mac Mini late 2012 (quad core i7) with Mavericks is doing fine with the small fix I mentioned earlier. Maybe this is an issue with older Macs? If so that would put a dent in Apple's reputaion for machines that last much longer than PCs.

It's clearly a software problem with Apple Maill.app and Google Mail (in my case, if it matters, Google Mail for Domains). I've switched to Airmail and everything works fine. While it may well be Google's fault, no one else, not even Apple on iOS, seems to have a problem making it work.

Talked with Apple Support by Phone. We tried to do a lot of things delete Mail preferences, create a new account, restart with CMD+R+ALT+P. Nothing. Airmail works fine. The only problem is GMAIL with Mail.

Fix for Apple Mail.app + Google Mail / GMail on Mavericks 10.9

The bug somehow involves extra heavy traffic between the gmail server and the mail app. In mail type option-command-zero [twice!] to see the activity window. It goes on for minutes at a time, then is finally satisfied. I havae just one gmail account and about 50 IMAP mailboxes where I store sorted messages.
