Apple mail does not sync with gMail

Today my Apple Mail no longer provides me with my gMail in the inbox.

I can send mail to my gMail address and it shows in the Sent box ...but it never makes it to my Inbox.

If I log directly into Google Mail the email message is there.

This has always worked before.

Also, just now I downloaded and installed the Apple update for Mail ...which said it fixes some gMail account issues ..but I still have the problem.

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

After several days of Mail.app actually working, it is back to its bad old self, not syncing new mail from the server and not deleting deleted mail from the gmail server.

Forcing a synchronize and rebuilding the inbox does't do anything. Restarting the app results in a one-time sycn but does not solve the problem. Anyone got any suggestions or advice before I ditch this this for Airmail?

What a frustrating experience.

Simple, make the switch to AirMail.

Had the exact same issues. Got so happy when. 10.9.2 came out, as it looked like they fixed the issue, only to be disappointed when it stopped working again. Would still love to know what the issue is.

Made the switch to AirMail about week ago and couldn't be happier, it works great. Make the switch, you'll be happy you did.

You would think that something that Apple screwed up, they could fix. I too thought they had fixed the problem with the last update. Worked for a few days, and now back to the same old problem.

Email is probably the second most used application, and the problem has been there since Mavericks.

Why are we expected to pay for an alternative????? When will Apple fix the problem??????

I can see my gmail in the browser. My iPad and iPhone retrieve them fine. But Mail on 10.9.2 refuses to retrieve them unless I take all accounts offline or restart Mail. Very frustrating. Apple, your reputation for quality is slipping given that Mail is such a core app and gmail is such a widely used email AND (most importantly) it has been a problem for 5 months now. I would think it was primarily Google's fault except it works fine on my iPad and iPhone.

Airmail is available for Lion.5 so I downloaded it and installed it. I am amazed at the esae of installation. Except for not knowing my Google password it went with no problem. Brought in the stored email and I am switching my iMac when I get home. As someone said on here if this can work so easily, why can't Apple fix Mail. I don't care whose program I use, as long as it works I'm happy.

Jeff,

I hope that works for you as a permanent solution. Mine lasted a couple of days and then broke again.

I ended up going with AirMail and couldn't be happier. Although I truly wish Apple (or Google, whomever at this point) would get their stuff together and fix this once and for all. Not really impressed with needing to use a third party app to replace a native app. But I'm happy to support someone who makes a good app, even at the expense of Apple.

Good luck.

I can not make Airmail accepting my Google Apps mail account with my own domain

- like account@my-domain.com

I' tried for hours an followed all the tips and tricks at Google support and Airmail faq's

seems to me like Google has a very strange way of working with IMAP and that Apple wont help.

I had tried to make Apple Mail working for weeks now and also tried other apps like Postbox - nothing works with google apps connected to a domain (and yes - mx settings etc, as well as imap settings at Google Apps are all set well :) )
