App Store not working on my mac

After installing OSX Mavericks on my Mac Pro Book the App Store application will "open" to a blank screen but none of the functions work. If you click on any selections (i.e., Featured, Updates, etc.) or the menu option Store, the app will clock and go into not responding mode. Since App Store is supposed to be part of the OSX install, is there some fix or a way to delete and re-install App Store without re-installing the entire Mavricks update?

If you tried resetting NVRAM and some of the other fixes and you still have no success, make sure you do not have the domain itunes.apple.com blocked by either your firewall or parental control software on your router.


To test this fix simply try navigating to that URL. If you get a block error then this is your issue.


All you have to do is add the URL to your firewall or parental control software whitelist of allowed domains


After I did this mine worked like normal.

Boris' answer helped me completely. (7th post down from the beginning.) It gave me back full functionality of everything on my mac. I have become more and more disillusioned with mac, iOS 6 which was a great IOS going to the kiddie looking app ios7 and continuing on in ios8. iPhone has slowed down unbelievably so now. Mavericks is a crappy OS compared to Lion and Mountain Lion and now Yosemite has more issues. I WILL NOT buy another mac, iPhone, apple product again now. There is no excuse for these constant bugs in updates. Every app, IOS, OS has had inexcusable issues. Printer configuration being killed, images going from a great app in pages 9 to a watered down pages 5. (Who came up with those names. btw pages 9 was actually version 4. lol) Very unprofessional treatment of your customers Apple. Please grow up and produce a quality product.

Hi I had this issue... I tried many many 'fixes' ... but no luck.... What finally solved the issue was to create a new USER ACCOUNT, one with full Administrator access

APPLE - SYSTEMS PREFERENCES - USERS AND GROUPS - add user

I then logged out and re-logged in with this new 'user'. The APP STORE was working fine, so i installed Yosamite on this same user sign-in ... then when it was installed, rebooted in my original ADMIN log-in... no probs, all fixed!
