Are lots of people meet the new iPad air restart problem? I have met it several times since I bought it a week. Any solution can avoid it or should I go to  store to change a new one As this is a really annoying problem.

Hi Tania221

There is a lengthy discussion of this at

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5532206?start=570&tstart=0

In a nutshell there seems to be a problem in the operating system (a few months old) of ios 7 working within the low ram of 1gb of the ipad and the processor within the ipad. Because the new processor needs a little more ram now it appears the 1gb may not be enough.

Wird on the street (and the thread) appears that apple are onto this (even though this is very very poor) and are hoping the updates on ios 7 on the near future will address this. Users here of the updates of ios 7 (ios 7.1 beta 2) are commenting on marked improvement. Rumours are saying this will be released beg feb.

Apple had now made its Christmas sales (which can all be returned by jan 7 so who knows - will they make a formal statement on this??

One thing that might help is when safari keeps closing down is close all apps in the background so as to make a bit of space within the 1gb. I also find zooming in quickly on some sites causes this issue and some sites are unworkable. It does need some patience.

If the ipad is doing this TOO MUCH then you can always take it into an apple store (if there is one nearby) to a Genius Bar for a band aid solution.

We are essentially hoping for this to be rectified through an ios 7 update or this will not only be a major stuff up but an abysmal commercial stuff up (I'm keeping this clean) of somewhat major proportions

Hope that helps a little.

It's official (as if it wasn't before) this issue is a result of hardware deficiency, or the latest apple iOS devices only having 1GB of RAM on the A7 64 bit processor. The new processor consumes 30% more RAM than the 32 bit processor of previous iOS devices. This deficiency of RAM causes low memory crashes and soft reboots.

I am on my 3rd iPad Air. Each has performed a soft reboot in the first day of use, and continues to perform them a myriad of times throughout the week. Beyond frustrating. You pay hundreds of dollars for something that doesn't work. Apple, what an unnecessary and gracious error. It's not like you. Steve Jobs passing has caused the company to decline. It would have cost them little to upgrade the RAM to the necessary 2-4GB. Apple profits hundreds of dollars on each device sold. iOS Devices in 2014 will likely have this necessary upgrade as a "perk" that will be just another much overdue feature.

I have lost my good faith in Apple. They have lost their edge. They are no longer the innovative leader in electronics.

My iPaid Air has rebooted a couple of times since I purchased the device in mid November 2013, however now my screen is just stuck on the apple logo. It appears as if it is rebooting but it goes right back to the logo and repeats this process over and over. Does anyone else have this problem? I guess I'll have to finally take it in to the Apple store today.

Trust me, I've tried everything: Restores, Recovery to Restore, hard resets, setting the iPad as a new device, and have exchanged it for a new device twice. All three have had a constant flux of low memory crashes and soft reboots.

Presently, there is no fixable solution to this issue. Perhaps when iOS 7.1 is released (which is rumored for early February to early march) the devices memory management my be adjusted for the better. However, the sad truth is the A7 64 bit processor requires more than the 1GB of RAM currently on the iPad Air.

Google "iPad Air need more RAM" or "iPad Air 1GB RAM" and you'll find plenty of critics who say 1GB isn't sufficient for the new A7 64 bit processor.

What is even more disturbing is that this behavior can be seen on the iPhone AND on Macs (search for "Random Restarts" in forums). There is clearly something fundamentally wrong with the latest release of IOS that is causing it to become unstable (well behaved kernels do not do this). Compounding this problem is the "Genius" Bar people swapping out hardware as a "fix". It is not and will not solve anything but the consumer's need to "do something".

Meanwhile Apple denies that there is such a problem (or quielty ignores inquiries) whilst it's reputation spirals. Every platform has issues at one time or another, but what sets the ones you can trust apart from the others is how the manufacturer deals with it. This smacks of Marketing People trying to do some sort of damage control and failing miserably.

Thanks for the reply and your suggestion on keeping closed all apps in the back ground it really help for a few days.
