I thought it was just me and my inability to turn off my phone. Seems like there are issues and apple isn't going to address it. This saddens me because I've had an iphone since the it came out. APPLE listen to your consumers.
I have the same problem with iPhone 5 power button. Been getting progressively worse for a few months, so I don't think it coincides with any software update. The fact that they are not issuing a recall on this is EXTREMELY disappointing.
This is most definitely a hardware problem and Apple is not standing by their product. The power button on my iPhone 5 started being less responsive last week and is nearly unusable now. I am 66 days out of waranty and Apple customer support gave me the line that it would cost $269 to repair. Unfortunately, I purchased iPhone 5 for both my girls in July. After this fiasco, I'm not buying Apple products again. What LOUSY customer support. This should be recalled.
I've been following this thread for some time now. There have been almost 3500 views. Whether it be hardware or software, this is obviously a problem. 33 posts have been made. 32 of them have all posted that something is wrong. I have never had a problem with an Apple product. What do we need to do now? How can we get Apple to fix this? Complaining is not enough. It serves it's purpose in that it proves there is something wrong, but now we need to discuss how to get Apple to address & fix this.
We know your there watching this thread. Will an Apple representitive please get in on this conversation?
It seems Apple is starting to block out users who are complaining about this problem from this forum and as someone suggested, deleting some threads out.
That seems to be the case doesn't it?
Yes. I also posted a website to get an estimate of how many people are affected but my post was deleted. Apple does not want us to talk about their product issues here or anywhere else. That website is up and you probably got an email which has the link. You can share that somewhere else. Just not here.
I was wondering if it was Iphone5 or if it was certain ones like Verizon version.
I don't know if there is much of a difference but it might.
Unlikely, there are problems with it all around the world. That makes is more annoying they don't care about it at all...
Why don't you use DFU mode to test your theory? Try downgrading your IOS software, and see if that fixes it?
Obviously the phenomenon has nothing to do with iOS 7, it's clearly a hardware related problem. The reason why a lot of people are experiencing this after the iOS 7 upgrade is because it seems that the power button of the iPhone 5 (or the cable underneath) wears out in just about 12-13-14 months. Now I can still use mine if I'm paying attention to only push the left side of the button, but it's surely disappointing considering that I always took good care of my iPhone (never dropped it, etc). It's just a matter of time when I must turn assistive touch on... I'll probably rather take it to a local repair service (Hungary, Budapest), but one must not be surpirsed to hear that I'm reconsidering my decision on buying the next iPhone in 2014, to say the least.
Hey! (Szia:) The T-mobile people said the full replace costs around 70k after the warranty expired, but the button replacement is under 10k. It's annoying as ****, but it's something.
Same issue here, intermittent problem with power button started at 14 months and has worsened. Same response from Apple UK; 209 pounds for a replacement phone with only 90 days warranty and no guarantee the issue wont recur on this replacement. Still have 9 months remaining on contract with O2.
I've contacted a repair service and they said that based on their experiences the reason of the problem (as someone already pointed out here) is the failure of the Audio Control and Power Button Cable flex cable. See it here. The price of the replacement part and the repair here in Hungary equals about 45 USD, but if you have the appropriate tools you might be able to swap it on your own. I for one will let the repair service handle it. Am I still disappointed? Of course I am... but what else could I do... 😟 At least that would be a good reason to always buy the "not as interesting" "S" model... these kind of hidden flaws usually get corrected in the second generation... sad but true.
