Mavericks Bug Macbook Pro Menu bar goes black

I have it installed, but I use it only in certain occasion... The problem is indipendent by Chrome, or at least it doesn't need to run it

This (unticking "Translucent menu bar" in Desktop & Screen Saver preferences) worked for me also.

I'm on a late 2011 Macbook Pro.

Turning off the translucent menu bar worked for me as well. I'm on a 2013 Macbook Pro with Mavericks.

Clicking the notification icon once after a reboot works for me, no need to turn off any features.

Add me to the list. 13' 2011 MBPro - This one is running Lion though, and I've seen it on other machines using Lion so I don't think we're talking about a Mavericks issue here....usually it just goes back to normal after a little while...I'm chalking this up to nothing more than a software glitch ... ??

The machine I'm looking at currently has Safari, Mail, Firefox, Adobe Reader, MS Word, MS Excel, Calendar, iTunes, Adobe Reader Update, and Preview open. Their background picture is a custom photo...

After finding this thread I went to Desktop & Screen Saver to switch backgrounds, and found that just toggling off the "Translucent menu bar" check box fixes it.

Nothing works in my case, cause I can fix it when it happens and not fix it once and for all. Eventually it will always happen again and again... I just need to click on the desktop to let it to show again tho, but it will always go away after some time, again and again...

This happened to me today. It is actually a very easy fix. Click on the top left symbol next to the search icon on the top menu bar. It will change back immediately.

Just woke-up from sleep and it happened. Anything that refreshes seems to work. I just toggled the background image and that worked fine. An odd bug.

I have a Macbook Pro Retina 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 running OSX 10.9.2

Happens for me now and then, just CTRL+Left/Right Arrow (switching spaces) and back works for me.

I had the same problem in maverick.

Clicking on the top-right corner notification menu item (that displays the notifications) refreshed the menu bar and that immediately resolved the issue for me.

Same, same issue for the first time today. Early 2011 15" MBP, 8GB RAM, Mavericks 10.9.3. Woke from sleep and the menubar was opaque black. 4-finger swipe up solved it for me (at least temporarily). I reported through Apple's feedback and referenced this discussion.
