Petermac87: It is not a simple matter of choice because I don't have the skills to set up my own server and I shouldn't have to use an earlier, and probably not long supported, version of OSX just to avoid the iCloud. And, yes, I have told Apple using the earlier link on this thread,
Well you cannot have what doesn't exist.
Try this

I agree. I gave up on iCloud when I could not access data on iCloud from my iPhone. I like to backpack where often you are out of digital cell service. Very frustrating to not be able to access data you need/want. With manual backup/sync. I KNOW all my data is on my iPhone when I take off on the trail.
Now I'm back on it and not a happy camper!!

Just as it is if sync'd via iCloud or Google, or Exchange, all data (from the last time you sync'ed) stays on the phone, exactly as if you had put it there using a cable, except you don't need a cable.

Which of these skills are holding you back: read, copy, paste, edit documents?

Show some maturity and dignity whilst posting and stop breaking the TOU you agreed to, post something constructive and it may stay here in the thread.

You can use other cloud services out there. Also iTunes syncing is allowed if you have the updated version of iTunes.
