App updates are not showing up in iTunes

I have a notification of 14 apps for updating on my iPad and 15 apps on my iPhone. Yet, nothing is appearing in iTunes on my MacBook Pro / OS 10.9. No matter how often I click "Check for Updates", I am told that there are no updates available for my library. When I check the version numbers of the apps in my iTunes that appear on my iPad & iPhone, they are a version below what is available.

This has only started happening in the last couple of days.

iTunes-OTHER, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

This is not the only current issue I have with iTunes and on another issue (which is still live) I got fobbed off by an Apple rep who recommended the same thing. The reality here is that Apple is making money hand over fist yet they cannot afford to have someone watch for issues with their most vital pieces of software on their own forums. This is 8 pages long, I have a few other serious issues with iTunes on pages with at least as many reports. None is addressed by anyone other than other customers or Apple reps (who give ridiculous workaround suggestions and seem incapable of escalating things upwards to the engineers). I am far too busy to be spending time doing Apple's bug-testing for them. Perhaps if they didn't play their cards so close to their chest and stifle any competition in this area we would not have to be so dependent on iTunes and could go to other developers for alternatives but it's pretty hard for a developer to compete with a combination of free and secret. Back when I was a young man there was an effective monopolies commission to deal with this sort of things but unfortunately their powers have been more or less neutered at this stage.

Hi All,

You may not believe this but I just got off the phone with an Applecare representative (who consulted with their manager before answering this question). Their statement was that the current inability of Itunes to display updates is the INTENDED functionality, it is operatng as expected. You are supposed to update apps on the device directly.

Needless to say, if this is the official position of Apple ... I consider it a brain dead decision.

- Downloading to multiple devices to update apps shared between devices is a waste of time and bandwidth (typically a hard wired computer will still have greater throughput than a wireless device)

- shared Itunes installations ... they even made the comment that Itunes is supposed to be used with one apple ID ... how can they expect every member of a family to have their own computer?

Anyway ... if this does represent how they plan to have the software function I suggest that folks submit some feedback to ...

I also opened a complaint through the representative but who knows what good that might do.

One main reason I have used apple is the convenience and organization provided by Itunes to keep iPad, iPod, IPhones owned by all family members organized. If they remove this functionality ... I'll just reconsider whether Apple is worth it ...

THIS.

Christmas right around the corner and Apple is so full of it, they can't even fix or even communicate towards a solution. I mean yes, it probably does get old raking in money day in day out with no idea where to put it all but dear Jesus, is it that hard to at least offer a service level one bit over a one-man-show? 😟

Hi, I presume you mean the Apps section under Library.

In the "All" section showing all the apps you have, if you are using a mouse, right click to show " Get info" then it will show a box, under summary you will see " Date modified" which is the last time it was updated. When updated it will show current date. I have just tried it.

Hope that is clear.

Cheers Mick

Applecare don't know their A**e from their elbow (they once caused me to lose all my stuff on HD)! I tried to speak to Apple tech support on Friday when this all happened (after being passed from pillar to post) and all he could tell me was third party apps weren't Apple's problem. Despite me explaining the issue at least three times to him, he hadn't got a clue. In the end I gave up and found a forum to vent my spleen!!! I can't believe that this is meant to happen after all these years. I've had two accounts, mine and my husband's linked to one itunes software as we only have the one computer and this is the first time I've had any problems.
