Design fault? 27" 2013 iMac stand just gave up!

That is what I was asking the poster whom I replied to. I have over 20 iMacs in the studio and have never experienced this issue with those or the two stock models they have replaced. Therefore I asked how big the problem is. Some figures would help.

Maybe you have them?

I'm going to take mine into an apple store and see if they really do repair it for free. Mine is out of warranty. I will get back to this forum as soon as I get more information. It should be a wild ride....

Got an appointment, I'll go to Genius next Saturday. I'm very curious to see if they are prepared to fix very soon my Mac.

The only thing I'm worry about is the fact they will have to disassemble almost everything to have access to the broken part.

Hope someone will reassure me about that.

If I have never seen the issue, then how can you predict that it will happen to me or the other millions of unaffected iMacs around the world. It appears that only about 0.0001% of iMacs seem to have been affected. I said it was an issue for a handful of people, or do you have other figures that prove otherwise? Or are you just trolling? 🙂

Yes I realise that. I am talking to the other poster who claims to be able to see into the future that all my iMacs in the studio will fall to this issue. Simply asking where he gets this ridiculous idea from.

Not arguing the fact that it is a real issue for some folks, just not a universal one, as they claim.

Huh. It seems to me that the guy who was quipping about stats and numbers earlier in the thread should be more appreciative of an additional data point. Or do you deny that my iMac failed? I am not sure what point you are trying to make.

Just heard the crack/snap while on a conference call... I am in shock how it just happens all by itself without any interaction with the monitor. Getting ready to back-up and be days without progress on my freelance projects - arrrr!

How disappointing Apple - yes my late 2013 iMac no longer stands tall. I am of course out of warranty and will now need to find out where to get it repaired. Given the number of failures it is very disappointing that Apple hasn't contacted owners for something that is known. Any ideas on how to get it fixed in NSW out of Sydney?

Yesterday I became another unfortunate victim of this clear design and engineering fault. But I'm in the sleepy Apple backwater of sunny South Africa. Has anyone else in this neck of the woods experienced the same problem and if so how was it resolved by our friends at the Core Computer Group (the somewhat less than popular local distributor of apple products locally)? Can it be repaired locally or are the machines shipped halfway around the world to be repaired and at what cost?

It is likely all about how your local store gets paid for the work.

If you have a case # hopefully that will get it done. Did you call the SA store to see if they would now repair it?

Had similar problems when living on a Caribbean island and had to get repairs authorized via Venezuela!

Does anyone know if they can retro fit the VESA mount as they offer with the new retina iMacs? Seems to me that is the way to go since the repaired hinge will no doubt fail again in due course.

The VESA mount cannot be retrofitted. Don't ask if there some way it can, because it cannot. Sorry to be the bearer of news you did not want.

I'd recommend that you would use an Authorized Apple Service Provider for the installation of that FusionDrive. Though it is not the most difficult of repairs, there are certain tools and items needed in order to properly carry-out this type of fix, most likely things you would not have.

You got nice looking chasis computer. It's worth $4000. Assembly parts for computers are all made in China or Taiwan but the design differentiate from other products. You can avoid buying it if you can't justify the price for its design. Above all, it's all in one slim desktop. Don't expect same benefit from luxury slim computer as that you can get from heavy duty huge business workstation....

That's not apple's fault at all.... It's yours. Buying things from distant place involves some risk or cost. Electronic products sometimes break. Shop are saying they will help. You may be able to get help from them. What is wrong with it? ....
