Design fault? 27" 2013 iMac stand just gave up!

How does OZ apple store respond?

I bought mind in Sydney, but now the iMac is in Indonesia. Will they replace it for free when you mention ACCC?

It happened to me again and this time they charged me 438€ Naples Apple Store, Italy.. very disappointed!! not happy at all... Apple knows about this problem, but don't care about it.. doesn't care about all of us.. 3000€ for a computer with a limp screen.. awful!

phoned Braehead today, but while waiting (they said 5 minutes) because it was a technical issue, I got put through to Ireland. Lovely guy, checked and said since mine was a late 2013 model (bought February 2014) it would be repaired free of charge and he got me an appointment for next Tuesday (April 6th).

I hope I don't have to do without my machine for 5 days!!

I will let you all know how I get on, but if this info is correct, if anyone has a late 2013 model, do ask ab out about a free repair - but it should be free for everyone when this fault is so common. Bad show Apple, there should have been a recall.

What bugs me out about Apple is it's not a third party part replying on external suppliers as they do for drives and graphic cards, the hinge is a Apple product.

Over the last three years of them failing they have not replaced the faulty part, just offer replacing it with the crappy stock.

Unless they can prove they have completely re-made a new part and can promise it won't brake, I will not be recommending any of my client

or family for that matter of buying any iMac.

I have August 2014 model and it happened to me as well. If the replacement part is the same, it will last 2-3 more years. Maybe then the new releases will be better built and faster. So if it brakes again, get your self a new iMac.... 😉

And you know this how? I mean that Apple is replacing the failed hinge parts "with crappy stock" ? And they have to "prove this" ?

Because there is iMacs gong back in for the 2nd time to get the same hinge replaced.

If you have a iPhone 6 you can use it under your iMac if the hinge breaks again to hold it upright

or a box of tissues.

Apple don't want you to have one computer to last forever.

They are like lightbulbs they are going to die or break so you have to go but a new one.

Why iPhone 6, please use bagels (no cream cheese) its cheaper. After the bagel will get hard, the monitor will no longer tilt. The bagels will not brake as they are not plastic. LOL 😁 😢

Please don't wait til it goes green, buy a new bagel after 6 months $1.00. So you have $2.00/year expense. I am using expired credit cards, so I am saving $2.00. I have another iMac 27" that is 2012. It was very well built mechanically.

I glued a section of celery (already green: no waiting necessary), its outer curve wedged up under the apex of the hinge, so it's kind of fixed now, but still has a little sprig — er, spring— in it.

Same same. 2011 27" iMac. snap then droop.

Quickest solution is two champagne or wine corks with one end cut at a slight angle. place them between stand and monitor back one on either side just above the round hold in back of stand. move up or down to adjust tilt. the fake corks may not have enough friction.

A slightly more permanent but removable solution would involve a drop of hot glue on each end. But I'm too busy for that right now.
