i can't resize the new message window in mac mail.

two of them are inactive: the green one brings the "normal" window back.

Quit Mail, restart the mac, do everything again. See that I am right.

i can confirm that the information on removing the signature works, i have had this issue for ages and put it down to maybe a beta software problem, but since my machine is now on a stable release the problem didn't go, but just now when reading through this i removed all of my signatures and recreated them again as the originals and even though they are the same the problem has gone and i can now have normal resizable windows for my messages 🙂

I have had exactly the same problem when I added a gmail account to my mac mail... I have removed the gmail account and the problem has immediately resolved... Dave 🙂

I had the same issue and found the cause. My issue was my signature but not the text in the signature itself. It was actually in the name of the signature. Somehow I had pasted the text I wanted in my signature also into the title. Once I renamed it the issue was resolved.

What helped me to solve problem????? Easy !

Go to View -->Message Attributes -> Click Size

Now everytihing can be resized.

I just had the issue on my email window and what I did to fix to issue was just name my signature. When I say name my signature I mean from the Mail > Preference > Signature area, if you do not give your signature a name, it gets named as your entire signature. When this happens, tries to fit the entire signature name text in the signature option menu which is why the screen is stretched out. Just named the signature something simple like Sig1 or something.

If your Mail screen fills your whole screen and you can't reduce its size, try using ESC on your keyboard. This worked for me. JB.

Try using the zoom / green button in the upper left of the MAIN Mail program window. Even if you are already in full viewing the that window, click it, and then do new message, and see if the resize button comes back on the new message.

If yes, then manually drag the Main Mail program window to the size you want and you should then be good to go. Might need to quit Mail in that configuration to get the size to "stick".

I am running 11.01. My problem is that the preferences in Mail is huge—twice as long in width as the screen itself. I cannot figure out how to resize it and none of the suggestions above work.
