My phone is set to 'silence only when phone locked' so i cant hear phone calls on ky iphone 4s unless its unlocked, how do i undo this? But i also dont want it to be 'silence phone calls when phone is unlocked'

Are you saying you tried all the suggestions in this thread and none of them worked? If you haven't tried them, now would be a good time to read the thread and try them out.

Go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Assistive Touch>Customize Top Menu and add that button.
Nice. thank you. I didn't even realize that was a mute over the volume button. That was the issue.
