GPU Panic - OSX 10.9 Mavericks - Macbook PRO 6,2

Hello there,

Since upgrading to Mavericks here is what happens:

I use my computer without any problems, leave, it goes to sleep. I come back, it wakes up for about 5 seconds and has a GPU Panic and reboots.

I've read about the GPU recall for the Mid-2010 Macbook Pro. But my computer is older than 3 years, so Apple won't take it.

I understand they were clear about the rules of the recall. But then again, If I found out I screwed up in my work, I'd try to fix it, despite of how long later the damage showed up.

Anyway, here are the specs of the computer and the crash log. Anyone has any ideas what could be causing it? I've done a clean install of Mavericks, and it didn't fix it.

Thanks!

Macbook Pro 6,2

15-inch, Mid 2010

2,66 GHz Intel Core i7

No upgrades, stock machine.

If you're still within the warranty, go get it fixed. It's a hardware issue. Unfortunately I was out of warranty and for a 5 year old computer, paying the $300 to get it fixed and running better was worth the money, better than buying a whole new computer, since this one should last me at least another couple more years until the OS gets too heavy and it can no longer run it. But until then, this money is nothing to get it fixed.

Yes. Under Windows 7 the screen will go blank for several seconds, often before recovering with message bubble hovering over the system tray stating "Display driver has stopped responding but has recovered". Sometimes it can happen several times in a row, in which case it might help if you hit alt-tab to move away from the app/window that has caused the issue, and occasionally the MBP lock up entirely or just reboot.

Jul 19, 2016 6:08 AM in response to LRBru

LRBru, your story has given me hope. I'm currently engaging Apple Australia regarding the same issue, and have been told numerous times (both by a 'genius' and their Philippines-based telephone support staff) that my MBP is a vintage machine and that they have no spare parts for it any more (were you told the same thing?)

They also are unable to even give me the start & end dates for the MBP 6,2 recall program, claim that they don't have any means to contact owners about such recalls, and 'regret' that they can't reimburse me for repairs performed by a third party repairer.

If you could give me and names or numbers of people at Apple that you spoke to in order to achieve your outcome, I would be very grateful.
