I used 1234 as recommended by another user. I didn’t recall ever setting a PIN for restrictions and now it seems it was set during an up date. I would suggest before resetting phone try the default 1234. Work for me

I set the restrictions code a couple years ago and for it it, and I don't have a backup pre-restrictions code.

Is the only way to wipe my phone and start over?

I see a bunch of videos showing tools like ibackupbot that backup my stuff while allowing the restrictions code to be reset. I don't want to use this app of unknown/untrusted origin. Is there a way to do what this tool does without having to download any third party stuff?

If someone restores their device from backup when they have forgotten their restriction passcode, yes, restoring from backup will put them right back where they started, meaning they still will need to know the restrictions passcode, which of course, they don't. The ONLY way to get out of such a situation is to use the link posted multiple times and erase the device using iTunes. They'll have to manually add their data back.

I'm not sure of the "link" you're referring to. If it's a link to a third party application download I've found them to be confusing as most of them seem to be using Windows and or have some kind of warning associated with them. I was hoping to get help from Apple as to how I could actually see and or edit my restriction passcode. I just purchased a new iPad and there are apps (not many) that I would like to transfer from my iPad 2.

I understand perfectly. I was just hoping there was an easy way to edit the backup made with iTunes using terminal or something native to the Mac software. There are third party applications you can download that let you transfer files individually from the iPad to the Mac then onto another device claiming iTunes is so limited as to which files can be transferred etc. It really seems a bit over kill to have this "restriction code" so hard to access considering it's only to prevent children from gaining access.
