Why limiting downloads to 100MB over Cellular Data?

Dear Apple's resrictions makers,

I'm using iPhone 5s .. And i'm privileged with unlimited GBs over LTE Cellular Data.

I've choosed to download an App which is over 100MB .. Got the message that I should connect to WiFi in order to download this App .. Why?

iPhone 5s, iOS 7.0.4

I'm seriously bothered by this limitation. Why make it hard for people to use their data connections? I mean, I can easily plug in my sim card to a wifi stick or another wifi hotspot phone and connect my iphone to the internet from there. I can then download hundreds of megs or gigs from the app store over my cellular data using this method. - For the record, I don't want to do it even if I can just because its too cumbersome.

App size limits for users on cellular data connections were put in place to prevent the saturation of the networks’ shared capacities. With unlimited data plans hard to find in many countries, the limits also prevent users from unintentionally exceeding their monthly data caps.

Think about it if it was unltd download size from the app store alongside with the amount of iphone users it could potentially crash the networks or the App Store or both.

I understand that it "could" clog the networks... however, it is just apple that's doing this. If it was really a worldwide issue, and that phone manufactures should work hand in hand with carriers to mitigate network traffic, all the other phone manufacturers would have something similar in their devices. But no, all the other phones out there do not have this restriction. I just don't get its just Apple that's implementing this. It just turns more people away from apple devices.

Google play restriction used to be 50MB. Not usre if it still is.

I see what you are saying. Some people may Leave Apple because of it but even more people will join Apple.

It will be the same for Android no doubt. A lot of networks probably can't handle that much data especially the poor countries and some of europe.

Nobody really knows why Apple does this. I have googled it and found nothing.

There's no restriction in google play. I have an android flagship device with another device, and if I want that phone to have limitations on downloading apps, I can set something up myself.

With all due respect Clark, I don't think android will ever limit its users like this by default, and without a choice. Probably the network carriers, but not google, or other oems.
