Itunes update failed. MSVCR80.dll is missing

I just updated Itunes on my Windows 7 desktop and now it won't open at all. Error message says Program cannot start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Reinstall the program. I don"t want to lose all of my music. What do I do? Will Apple let me know how to fix?? Very frustrating.

The 64-bit version (itunes64setup.exe) appeared when I called it up from downloads on the iTunes.com site: http://www.apple.com/itunes/

I followed tt2's directions to the letter, including installing as administrator or right-clicking the downloaded exe file.

Be sure you reboot after dumping the old version and before downloading the new version.

By the way, I usually use Firefox. However, for this process, I decided to use Safari. Don't know if that made any difference.

For what it's worth, it appears that many, many of us have been plagued by this 11.1.4 upgrade.

Best wishes.

Rather than delete software have you guys tried copying another msvcr80.dll into the your windows system32 directory? I have lots of copies of it scattered all over my system and the last time apple bungled this I just copied it over to get it going. Another option is to check your trash for the file and restore it. I'm going to leave this one alone until apple corrects the installation package.

Many users have found that if they ignore that error and move to the next step the reinstall goes smoothly. Alternatively try using the slightly more detailed process outlined in HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. It may help to use safe mode if you find yourself unable to remove any of the folders recommended in the instructions.

Hi John,

Go into Programs and Features and uninstall in this order:

iTunes

Apple Software Update

Apple Mobile Device Support

Bonjour

Apple Application Support

Reboot. Download a new copy of iTunes. Right click on the exe file and select Run as Administrator.

We experienced the same problem.

If the driver 'rolls back' when you try to delete the Apple Mobile Device Support app from Uninstall Programs, go to the Services in Device Manager and select Repair.

You may have to do this a couple of times. Then go back to delete the Apple Mobile Device Support app.

After a couple of attempts repairing the service the Apple Mobile Device Support app deletes.

Once you have all the apps listed above deleted, download a new copy of iTunes and install. From there it will be clear sailing and all will be back to normal.

For anyone still having problems with the itunes MSVCR80.dll missing Error.

mr martinn reply on Jan 26, 2014 9:21am works

In Windows 7 or 8 go to the Control Panel / Programs and Feature and uninstall any Apple app related to iTunes.

iTunes

Apple Software Updates

Apple Mobile Devices Support

Bonjour

Apple Application Support

I also uninstalled Quicktime.

Reboot System

Download latest iTunes and save to the download folder.

Locate your iTunes download and Right click on the Popup select Run as and Administrator

That should do the trick, may need to reinstall Quicktime.

snorbensman,

If turningtest2 info does not help then try the following

1. Be sure you have administrator rights to the PC.

2. Scan System for viruses and malware be sure to run definition updates first. (malwarebytes is a good package)

3. Disable UAC located; "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts\Change User Account Control setting", bring all the way down to turn off.

4. Try reinstalling iTunes, MUST run as an administrator by right clicking the installation app.

5. ReEnable UAC once the process is complete.
