iTunes update failed. Ended with error 7 (Windows error 126) and ask to reinstall.

After reinstallation I get missing MSVCR80.dll

I run Windows 7 Pro all updated.

Many thanks for the detailed steps! You should get some compensation from Apple for your great tech support. I am very grateful for you help!

I first tried system restore to no avail (I thought that might be a quick fix).

In my case it was key to delete the residual files and directories under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ (there were many left after the uninstall).

Three hours of my life sucked away due to some obviously bad patching from Apple.

Like roland277 says...now my daughter will be talking to me again 😁

Bravo, JMSOAP!

I won't tell you how many frustrating hours I'd spent trying to get the install to work prior to seeing your splendid remarks viz. removing residual files... but clearly, your suggestion was the missing element.

Clean install now... and even better - it all works.

For the benefit of others saddled with XP Pro SP3 legacy systems who've encountered this nasty problem... simply execute the UnInstall sequence as per TuringTest2's solution [see thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5818994?start=0&tstart=0 ] and then, DO NO REBOOT, but instead immediately implement JMSOAP's tip - by removing all residual files/directories in ProgramFiles/CommonFiles/Apple... as well as the entire contents of the ProgramFiles/iTunes and ProgramFiles/iPod folders... for added good measure you might then want to clean up your registry with Piriform's CCleaner.

Having done all that... you may then ReBoot.

Run the install of the latest iTunes version and.... voila.

You're back in business/libraries and associated data intact.

Thank you JMSOAP!

Sadly, none of the suggestions have worked for me. My error is the following:

The procedure entry point

?videoTrachs@QTMove@@QBE?AV?Vector@V?$RefPtr@VQTTrack@

@@***@@$0A@VCrashOnOverflow@2@@***@@XZ could not be

located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files (x86)\Common

Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\WebKit.dll.

After I click okay, I then get this error message:

iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.

Error 7 (Windows error 127)

I have tried all above suggestions to no avail. Time to call Apple Support. What a mess. Running Windows 8.1 64-bit very new HP Envy laptop. How supremely frustrating.

I suspect that you have multiple copies of QTMovieWin.dll, possibly as a result of an earlier attempt to fix a similar issue. It is likely that the version iTunes gets to see is the older one which is why there is a problem. You should have the one copy of QTMovieWin.dll in:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support (32-bit Windows) or

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support (64-bit Windows)

You should find that if you remove any copy made in:

C:\Program Files\iTunes (32-bit Windows) or

C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes (64-bit Windows)

that iTunes will work normally and that subsequent software updates don't cause this problem to reappear.
