Tried these steps. I have Windows XP. Was able to remove everything without major issues. Now when I try to install iTunes, I get this error:
"iCloud Control Panel requires that your computer is running Windows Vista or newer"
I'm not installing iCloud, just iTunes. Got the latest installer from Apple.
Any help would be awesome.
Thanks!
Hi. Do you think you could post a screenshot of that error? Did you clean out the recommended folders? See the second box in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for WIndows updates for an updated removal guide.

Alright.. finally got iTunes to install. I had to download version 11.1 ... And that installed and could read the library file. Will have to remember not to update in XP. I think in the latest version they've included iCloud for XP installation too.. which basically makes the installer (and iTunes) incompatible with XP. They need to make that clear.
Thanks. The second error is to be expected. Most updates to iTunes make changes to the internal database layout. Newer versions contain code to update from an older layout, but not vice-versa.
The first is a new one on me. I suggest you try the repair steps again in the way that I've outlined in the link above. See if it installs properly this time.

Nope they don't work. I think the new installer is just incompatible with XP.
Thanks for your help.

Reinstall worked fine for me on Windows XP. I suspect some other issue caused the installer to misidentify the operating system.

All I have to say tt2 is AMAZING. Thank you so much for posting these very helpful instructions on the R6034 install issue. They were wonderful to follow and worked perfectly.
Thanks again.
You're welcome. 🙂

Interesting that XP install worked for you. I tried it atleast 5-6 times. Maybe there's something wrong with my XP machine that the installer misreads the OS.
Thank you for all your help. I'm in the process of moving to Windows 7 anyway. Not been having much luck with moving the library over. Lets see how that goes..
Thank you so much turingtest2!!!!! Your directions worked like a charm!
I read through the first part of this thread and decided to stop the Mobile device service first and then follow your instructions on the app removals.
Again...thank you so much tt2!
You're welcome. 🙂

I'm still having the same problem. I've re-installed it one million times, followed all the procedures found in posts and nothing. I can't even open my iTunes. What can I do?
It only took me 2 days to solve this despite reading several threads and following several suggestions including tt2's well written instructions. I guess after a while we all have slightly different things hiding in our Windows setups, so there's no guarantee a fix will work on every PC.
iTunes failed installs aside, I kept getting the runtime error message on every reboot until my Win 7 finally responded to Microsoft Fit It uninstalling every little hint of anything Apple from its installed programs list. One last reboot and the error message didn't reappear, and only then did a fresh download of iTunes install OK. Phew!
Am I correct in assuming that Apple haven't commented at all on this issue, apart from offering a 'fix' that doesn't seem to work very well, judging by the number of queries here?
