On this date, 2 hours of my life I won't get back because of an iTunes update that was a complete GOOBER!

You were the light at the end of that tunnel!!

1 Million bit coins for you, sir!

Your fix was simple, easy to understand, straight forward. It worked like it was supposed to. I have my iTunes back up and running. The rest of my Sunday is wide open.

Take the rest of the month off, you deserve it.

This is an update for those who might experience my same problems, in my case I couldn't remove the apple directory in programs/common files because of the iCloud application running (not mentioned on the procedures here).

I managed delating the Apple directory after removing iCloud from Chrome Extensions, terminating all of the apple servicies through ctrl/alt/canc/process comand and then unistalling iCloud by the control panel (still not sure if i lost all of my data doing so, but it seemed it was the last chance for me).

Then I reinstalled iTunes, which seems to work now.

It was a nightmare, i lost one day, I definitely won't update anything from Apple since now on without seeing the others comments first, appreciate a lot this kind of support, but it's still sad seeing a Company like Apple turning its clients as tester.

I honestly didn't expect this.

Thank you very much.

I still can't get this to work. Taken steps in previous posts (Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8). Was able to remove everything in C:\Program Files (x86). Not able to remove C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple.

Per the instructions checked the task manager for iPodService.exe Alert. It was not there. I keep getting an error message stating that the file is open in Windows Explorer. The error message says it's the ShellSteams64.dll. The file description says Apple Photostreams UI Shell Extension. Any advice

thank you to all for their help - did as instructed and removed all apple and itunes files, reboote, downloaded new itunes and installed ok thank goodness with all playlists and content intact.

What i dont understand is how apple themselves can produce such a rotten update to itunes that messes up things for a lot of people. now if i had done the update being computer programming illiterate then anyone could say what a shambles, but for such a large company like apple then this is extremely bad programming - i wonder if someone has deliberately put out a bad batch of updates to mess things up.

As usual apple have not bothered to respond to anyones' requests and comments.

I have tried all the steps, including the detailed instructions and booting in safemode. But it still does not work. When in safemode, I still could not remove everything. The problematic file seems to be "shellstreams64.dll" and a related folder with a similar name. It keeps asking for permission to delete even in safemode. When I rebooted again and tried to load the itunes program from scratch I got an error message that it couldn't be completed. I thank everyone who has tried to help here, especially turingtest2, but further suggestions would be welcomed. I have 64-bit Vista.

Worked beautifully! Thanks on behalf of so many frustrated users. I too ran into a problem that someone else mentioned, that Apple Mobile Device Support would not uninstall. So I uninstalled all of the other components, as you suggested, and AMDS automatically uninstalled as well. Then, downloading and installing iTunes was seamless. Victory! Thanks again. I hate to be defeated by technology!
