Okay Apple, we would really enjoy a definite answer. My iPhone 6 Plus is running on latest version of iOS 9 and it is STILL giving me the error message. This issue arised on this phone and iOS 8, with my prior iPhones never had an issue. I'd done everything this post has recommended and I am still getting an issue. I hate using the GMAIL app. The Mail app on the iPhone is my favorite app to get all and any email, so I would really like to be able to use my professional email with it. That's my main email for jobs and things like that. Idk if it's Apple or Google but this needs to get fixed already. 😟

I found this happening both on iOS8 and iOS9, but it is worse on iOS9. What works is simply to close down all open mail windows (double-click the home button and flick the apps off). That works every time for me. But it is happening too often. Either Apple needs to figure out a fix or communicate with mail companies to do their thing on their end. By the way, this is occurring both on Gmail and OUTLOOK mail, but not with my Apple mail me.com) account.

i have the same problem. 3 gmail accounts, only one having problems. I deleted all three, reset all settings, and can add back in the 2 gmail accounts that never had a problem, but when i try to add in my primary gmail account, it will not get past the screen for choosing what to allow (Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, etc). it switches to that screen for a second then boots me all the way back to "add an account" without giving me a chance to save. Please help with a solution!

Same problem with three Gmail accounts on an iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 Plus, both running the latest version of iOS 9. I was also having the problem when running iOS 8. The problem comes and goes, nothing seems to make it go away. I have been dealing with this on two generations of iPhone and two generations of iOS, and I'm finding it's more prevalent with iOS 9, and it's really starting to get to me, veeeery frustrating 😠 I don't have this issue with any of my iCloud email accounts. Apple, are you listening? This is a widespread issue and we really need a solution. Its been two years now, come on, give us a hand here, please!! 😕

OK, I have the exact same problem once I updated the IOS. Power cycling did not work. I deleted my gmail account in the mail setting and added it back in when NOT on wifi. This is key. I tried doing it on wifi and it will not go through the whole account addition process. Just make sure you are not on wifi when adding the gmail account back and you'll be fine!

I too have been having this problem for some weeks - tried deleting and reinstalling the account but that didn't work, A few days ago I tried ALLOW LESS SECURE APPS on the gmail site and so far, that seems to be working. Go to GOOGLE>MY ACCOUNT>SIGN AND SECURITY>CONNECTED APPS AND SITES>ALLOW LESS SECURE APPS>ON

I don't fully understand what's going on, but I suspect it's an interaction of google's increased security and Apple's upgrade. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for the moment. HTH
