iTunes 11.1.4 freezes after connecting iDevices

I'm using iTunes 11.1.4 on Windows 7 64-bit. When I connect iPhone 4 7.0.4 and iPad 4 7.0.4, iTunes freezes and I have to end the procces through task manager. Or if I disconnect the iDevices, iTunes just show a message that hte device was detected but it cannot be synced. Even when I click on Preferences in Edit menu when there is no iDevice connected to the computer, it freezes. I re-installed the iTunes and I tried to Repair it but there was no difference.

I was just having this issue as well. I tried the top answers to this and no luck. Just to be clear, I am on Windows 7 and just did a fresh install on a new SSD drive. iTunes was running perfectly on my old version of Windows 7.

When I would download iTunes and "run as administrator" only iTunes itself would actually install. Then when I opened the program, a popup would say that Apple Application Support was not found. Well then why didn't you install it with iTunes, Apple?

Long story short, the fix is this...

Once downloaded and saved, (do not "run") use a program like win-rar to extract the files to another folder. Win-rar was free wherever I found it. You extract by right clicking your download and hitting the proper message. Go into the newly created folder and starting at the top, begin installing the software. Go figure, Apple Application Support is in there! Make sure you install everything including Bonjoir, Update, and the x86 versions even if you have a 64 bit computer. Once everything in there has been installed including iTunes, you should be set. If not, completely remove all iTunes restated software in control panel including Bonjoir, Update, AAS, etc... Once removed, go through the above steps again but in the order they are in that extracted file.

Where I got into trouble and was having the freezing issue as mentioned was not installing the Update program and the x86 versions. Once I did that, everything worked fine.

I hope this helps someone trying to put a movie on their iPad or iPhone for their kids to watch in the car or on a plane.

Fwiw after a rebuild of my iTunes Library (Windows 7), I'm now able to Sync my iPhone 6 without crashing. I never did have to reset my phone, though I did try most if not all of the suggestions prior to the rebuild so perhaps it wasn't the rebuild alone which helped in my case. I know this thread is more Mac focused but I thought I'd share this anyway as it appears other Windows users are looking for answers.

As another data point, syncing my phone in iTunes 12.0.1.26 to my Macbook Pro (OS X 10.9.5) to a new library (had never synced to it before) did not have any problems at all.

I now have the same issue with itunes freezing when connect my iphone 5s, still running ios 6, to itunes on my windows 7 PC. Was working before I followed a link to load icloud application to my PC. That did not work, and itunes freezes when trying to use. I uninstalled the icloud app, but itunes continues to freeze when the iphone is connected. Seems like icloud did something to cause this problem. Does anyone know how to fix this problem for windows 7 users? I saw the rebuild the itunes library option, but I am not sure exactly how to do that.

Thanks

I deleted this sync services (I actually cut the folder "local" from within sync services and moved it elsewhere for safekeeping). I then rebooted the computer and then I could plug in my iphone4 without locking up itunes. Thanks for the help!

Used on latest version as of Dec 26/14 (12.0.1.26).

Windows 7 home prememium, 64-bit.

I navigated (in windows) to (user)>app data>roaming>apple computer>sync services. User is the name of your user account in windows. It may be owner or your name or something else. It's the same as the user you click on when turning on your computer to start windows. If you don't see app data, you'll need to click around on the menu (file...edit...etc) to find folder options, choose the last tab and find the place to click a radio button to show hidden files and folders. Once you are in sync services, there is a folder called local. I click on it once to highlight it, pressed buttons ctrl and x to cut it and then ctrl and v to paste to desktop. This deletes it but saves it elsewhere in case things are so royally screwed up you need to put it back. Then I rebooted the computer (restart from the start button menu). Then after turning it on again I opened itunes, gave it time to load, and then plugged the phone in. It worked and has worked several times since yesterday including after a reboot. I hope the instructions aren't to basic - I'm used to dealing with my mom. I had to send her a photo of my iPad with the home button circled because she couldn't find it on her own iPad...

This is what my folder looks like. Have you synced to your user account?

Troubleshooting Sync Services on Windows with Microsoft Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, or Outlook 2010 - Apple Support

Try out the "reset sync services" bit from this link. If everything is saved in the cloud for you, don't worry about backing up.

If you decide to uninstall itunes, follow the exact order of steps 9google it), and itunes isn't first (go figure).

Have you tried an itunes repair? Download the latest version (I go straight to support.apple.com/downloads because the update facility within itunes doesn't always tell you there is an update. Other hairpulling events led to that revelation.) then run the install program. If it's an update, it will say installing, if it's not, it will ask if you want to repair (or uninstall I think. I had such a bad experience uninstalling once that I don't think I will ever attempt it again. I will reformat windows first, that's how bad it was.) ***If you uninstall itunes, deauthorize all the accounts associated with it first through the store tab up top!!**

I hope something works for you soon! The other thing you could try if the above doesn't work is to open another user account on your computer, open itunes, and try syncing there (you'll have to point it to your current itunes library). Of course, itunes will try to erase everything because you've synced with a different itunes so: 1. in preferences tick the box that says "prevent i-things from syncing automatically", 2. Use ifunbox to delete 3 key files so itunes thinks your phone is new and you've never synced it before (there are several tutorials available for that and the program is free).

I had the same problem ie iTunes froze when I connected my iPhone on Windows 7.

Add to this, the folder 'C:\....\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\SyncServices' was NOT present on my computer.

This is what RESOLVED it.

1. Uninstall all Apple softwares (anything in Control panel which has Publisher = Apple)

2. Goto 'C:\...\AppData\Roaming' and rename the 'Apple Computer' folder to say 'donotuse_Apple Computer'

3. Goto 'C:\Program Files XX' and rename any folders starting with 'Apple' as in step 2.

4. Install iTunes in Administrator mode (Right click the exe file and select 'Run as administrator).

5. Do NOT run iTunes as part of installation. (ie untick the box where it says something like 'Open iTunes after installation')

6. Open 'iTunes' as Administrator for the first time (ie find 'iTunes' in your programs, right click and select 'Run as administrator')

This RESOLVED the issue for me and a friend too!

Hope this helps someone else.
