Iphone 5 won't update or download new apps

Just recently I realized that my Iphone 5 will not update or download new apps. I have tried reseting my password, reseting my phone, plugging it in my computer, and restored it from the computer. All it does is ask for my password and that's it just never downloads. I don't know what to do. It does this for the updates as well just asks for the password and then nothing happens.

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.4

I have the same problem with a new 5S. Shows I have Apps to update, click on update and it asks for password to account, accepts password, looks like it starts to update, and then the update button pops back up again....no update on phone! I've repeated this cycle a dozen times.

I finally fixed this on my iPhone! I found out that I needed to agree to the new terms of service before it would complete any downloads, but for some reason those new terms of service weren't showing up on my phone. I was getting stuck in a loop where I would try to install a new app, it would ask for my password, then ask for my fingerprint three times before canceling the download. It wouldn't get out of this loop.

Here is what I did to fix it:

Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store

Select your Apple ID and tap "Sign Out"

Open the App Store app

Select any app on the Featured page and try to download it

The new terms of service should pop op

Tap "Accept" on the new terms of service

Your download should start!

This should fix the problem for those with the same issue as me

Hello Cassidurr,

It sounds like you are unable to use your APple ID and paswsord to download new apps, or iOS updates. I would next recommend signing out of your account in Settings > iTunes and App Stores. Then close all the running apps on the device:

iOS: Force an app to close

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137

Double-click the Home button.

Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.

Swipe the app up to close it.

When you have done that restart the phone and try again:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Take care,

i found this frm a post last year and it worked for me :----

this is not phone or OS problem . its only your router DNS transfer function problem

I have resolved the problem by myself. I just figured out that the problem due to the DNS transfer function in my router. If I set the iPhone 4S to use the DNS server as 192.168.1.1 which is also the ip address of my router it will have the problem until I set the DNS to some common DNS service, such as 8.8.8.8 from Google. I think it is the problem of compatibiliy between the iOS and the router.

GOTO SETTINGS>>WI-FI>>click on informatio button(i) of your network>> change DNS to 8.8.8.8>> return

all the best........🙂🙂

Sorry I am new to forums, so I dont know if it's too late to post a solution. This happened to my brother and what fixed it was setting the date and time to automatic.

Go to Settings > General Settings> Date and Time

Then make sure it is set to automatic.

There used to be a message that would tell you to do this for the ipod touch, but I guess they removed it. I hope that works.

Reset all settings. Worked like a charm. Found the answer here: http://ipad.about.com/od/iPad_Troubleshooting/a/How-To-Fix-My-Ipad-App-Won-T-Upd ate.htm

I've had to do two restores in two years and the guy at the Apple store nonchalantly suggested I do another which I was not about to do. You will have to re-do all your settings but such is techno life.

Hi all

I had this problem till 30min ago, but now i'm downloading or updating those apps werent install on my phone.

My problem was installing some apps that has been downloaded but not installed and my phone gives me this notice: unable to install app, do you want to retry? (Or something like this)

I tried CentripetalA's solution- tnQ for your note- i went to settings, general, date and time, then set the automatically. It longs about 1 or 2 minute and it was loading and in the middle of prosses i turned it off again. At the last line the date and time was shown with a blue color.

After all, i opened the app store and update the app that didnt install and it works!

Thank you again CentripetalA and Apple Inc.
