Touch ID doesn't work after iOS 7.1 Update

After installing iOS 7.1 Touch ID stopped working. When I put my finger on the sensor nothing happens.

I already tried rebooting and switching Touch ID on and off. None of that seemed to work. Is there anyone else experiencing similar problems?

Update: Right now I'm trying to set up a new fingerbrint but it doesnt even start scanning when I put my finger on. It just doesnt do anything. I have a feeling that the sensor might be broken...

You have obviously never developed sensor related hard- and software.

Sorry, but I have. And I doubt that you have. Much of my work has been in sensor related hardware and software, including avionics such as radar electronic countermeasures for the EA-6B Prowler aircraf, the automated landing systems for aircraft carriers (google "AN/SPN-41" - I designed the shipboard electronic components) and for the Space Shuttle. I have engineering degrees in Electronics Engineering and a Masters in Computer Science. I also worked on the design of AT&T's ESS 1 and ESS 5 switches, AT&T's first speech recognition service for placing phone calls and several other Bell Labs projects.

Aha... And in all those projects you never had to deal with tolerances in electrical tension of sensors due to temperature changes. Well, lucky you!

So do you have anything constructive to add to this thread but "Replace your hardware?". Apple seems to be working on this already so it`s obvious that this is a software related issue. What`s your point?

My point is that Apple's solution is to replace the hardware. Anyone who goes to an Apple store with a phone that has Touch ID problems gets a replacement immediately, no questions asked. So Apple seems to think it is a hardware problem. And anyone with any sense who has this problem should want replacement hardware. If it is that sensitive it will likely fail again, even it it can be tweaked to work for the moment.

Well, thats all good. The Apple store will replace the phone. Believe me, I`d be happy to replace my phone if I believed that would help. But I tested this on other devices too. Most of the people who own them say they dont have any problems with TouchID. So we heated up their 5s with some heavy rendering and tried to teach it my thumb. TouchID didnt make it to the end of the process but it did still work with their thumb.

Should they replace his phone as well? I dont think so.

(Just for the record: My thumbs and fingertips dont have any unusual scars or else on it and other regions of my fingers work flawless whatever temperature the device may have)

Yeah it can't just be a hardware issue because my Touch ID was working totally and completely perfectly until the newest iOS update came that was supposed to "improve" the Touch ID. Unfortunately the update made it so the sensor rarely to never works. I try all my fingers that I have saved and the phone doesn't even recognize that I'm trying to use the sensor. That never happened before the update.

Awesome its 100% heat problem , i tried it more than 20 times to make my finger cold and it works all the time

More to the point, it is a HARDWARE problem with your phone specifically (and some others). I just tried heating my 5S with a hair dryer, and heating my finger also. Then I tried chilling both. And combinations of both (hot finger, cold phone; cold finger, hot phone). And my Touch ID worked perfectly on the first touch for every configuration. If I had the problem you have I would get Apple to replace it (which they will). It's covered by warranty. Why don't you want to get the service you are entitled to?
