IOS 7.1 iphone 4S wifi not available .. help..
iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1
For me this just work temporary and after a few tries, it stops working. But, thanks!
If your wifi won't turn, the solution is this, and please don't laugh. I had this problem since i updated my 4s to 7.1.1 last week. I tried everything, restore from backup, set up as new, hard reboot, network reset etc. Nothing helped!!! Yesterday i saw in a forum a topic about something crazy😝 I was supposed to warm up my 4s with a hairdryer, untill it gets overheated, and then to put in the freezer for 10min. So i did!!! Did it work? Nooo!! Today i contact apple support. Spoke with a guy there , explained to him what the problem was. I also told him everything i did. The only answer he gave me was that, since my warranty was over, i had to bring it to a store and get it fixed for 200 euros. I tried this hairdryer thing, but i left it in the freezer for 15 min. Guess what!!!! My wifi, and bluetooth, are working again!!!! Hardware problem!!! kiss my a**e!!
If you'd taken the time to read a couple of posts in this topic you'd know that lots of people have already used the hairdryer method. For some it has been succesful while for others (like myself) it was just a temporary fix and the problem returned again. Try stress-testing the fix by watching a long youtube movie over wifi and see what it does.
I'd like to express my concern over the lack of a meaningful response from Apple. My daughter's phone is experiencing this issue as well. I've reset networking settings, restored the phone, reset back to factory settings, all with the same result- wifi may or may not be grayed out, difficulting connecting to wifi and finally not being able to maintain a connection for more than a few seconds. After reading this thread, it does seem like a possiblity that the new version of IOS 7.x runs the processor at a higher utilization causing some potential heat issues. If I wait a few minutes after using the phone it seems like I have better luck connecting to wifi, but it won't last long. I haven't tried the hair dryer trick and I'm afraid that's the last resort. I know Apple monitors these threads and I'm sure they are trying to keep this issue quiet, but perhaps that will change with the recently filed lawsuit. Does anyone have additional details about the class action suit that they are willing to share? I would think the more public pressure that can be put on Apple, the more likely they will be to resolve the issue- or at least do the right thing if the 4s is no longer a viable device. I am a very disappointed customer...hopefully Apple does the righ thing.
My 4S went south after Update. It appears like the Apple World is upsidedown with this problem. I fixed my using a hairdryer and a refridgerator, others have not been so fortunate. Techs @ the brick and morter shops WORLDWIDE are telling users its a fried wifi chip and replacement is expensive WAH Wah wha why not Upgrade your device!! Yeah! most 4S phones in very good condition Network Locked or not are still worth a couple Benjimans. The partnered carrriers like Ver and At (fill in the blanks! are onboard with that solution as well.) they get a good used phone on trade, sell a new phone and probably lock you down with 2 yrs. of service. The tech geeks in this community are seemed to be interested only in throwing around unlimited expertise on the nuts and bolts of problems with the products as if nobody else has any sense.or knowledge of the goods in question
The bigger picture is change in the industry. I'm onboard with you. Seems the corps cut our uplinks with updated firmware that gives our devices nervous breakdowns and the carriers hold our devices hostage after our obligations are fulfilled by keeping the cdma and gsm locked. It will be a messy fight no doubt but it will take patrons like U & I and the 100s of thousand others in the digital communication world to unite to create sweeping change not just with Apple but industry wide. (I love my Apple products but feel like I'm becoming just another forgotten brick in the wall! Thanx for posting your problem but also opinion.Thought I was alone here. BTW what lawsuit? and is Apple paying attention or is this GM all over again?
Here's a link to the class action suit...
A lot of people think that this greyed out wifi occurs after upgrading to ios7. However, mine happened way back, during ios6. Since then, I've been searching for a solution. I did the hairdrier method and luckily, it worked for me. But I don't know if the magic will be gone one day.
Yep. Count me in on having the same problem. It's maddening. I upgraded to the new ios in good faith, my phone has lost some of it's key functionality. My 4S is a relatively new, expensive piece of hardware and things like wifi just need to work. My livelihood depends on it. Resets, restarts and restores have not solved the issue.
I'm unwilling to freeze it, blow dry it, or try any other gimmicky "fix". I'm also unwilling to be forced to "upgrade" to a 5 (this is akin to extortion.) Unfortunately, this long time (20+ years,) loyal Apple fan is now seriously considering alternatives.
Count me in, if there are plenty people like us, it must problem of apple not us, why should we forced to change phone.
This lawsuit is laughable. It's no different then when say Microsoft comes out with a new OS and it doesn't work well with OLD machines and you basically wind up upgrading. Yeah it's BS, but they are doing nothing wrong.
Ibeezerd, Let me be the one to reply, although stupid, I know it...
An update of your OS kills your wifi? Hardware is broken according to Apple reps and phone needs to be replaced? By installing an OS update?
Even Microsoft hasn't made that kind of mistakes. And they would blame it on the hardware, but if Apple should blame the hardware... we'd all get a new one for free! So they don't, without some pressure. So a lawsuit is probably what is needed for Apple to acknowledge a major mistake and give us the opportunity to either swap our phones for free or give us an update that corrects it.
I'm still afraid we will have to wait for an update that magically re-enables our wifi... allthough it was obviously broken before!
Count on me for the lawsuit!
Just a little reminder for people that do not read:
the unofficial solution to wifi disabled on iPhone 4s after update to iOS7:
hairblow for about 10 minutes into the top of your phone (from 10" distance of course) while keeping the phone busy. A message that the phone is overheated should popup eventually. Shut the phone down (mind you, it's hot) and lay it aside for 30 minutes to cool down (don't charge it while resting).
After powering on the phone everything is working again as if nothing ever happened. For some it lasts for months, for some it's just a temporary solution. When it dies again, just repeat procedure.
PS the official sollution is to go to a service provider and pay €200,- or 200$ to swap your phone...
Hi guys,
I have the same ****** problem. I tried everything from resetting my 4S for many many times to restoring the IOS with the help of ITunes. After restoring the IOS the WIFI worked for a few minutes then died again.
I think Apple should give us the solution to downgrade to an older version of IOS until this problem is solved in the newest version. Now this option is impossible for Iphones that are not jailbroken.
I've had this problem for a good two weeks now. At first I thought I'd just turned off Wifi accidentally, only to find the setting greyed out and not usable. It's been around for longer than I thought....You would think Apple could come up with a solution to this "hardware problem" asap. I've tried almost everything save for the total system reset and the hairdrying method. I am willing to give the good ol' hairdryer a shot at fixing my wifi lol This is just unacceptable. I'm not about to go to an Apple store just to hear an employee tell me that it's not the company's fault and the only solution is to upgrade. All they're gonna get me to do is walk out the door. I'm on a shared data of only 2g. Wifi was our main source for data. It's free and it doesn't add to the bill's plan. But since Apple's staying quiet(I'm praying that they're working on some sort of fix,) at this point every byte counts lol
APPLE HAS TO GET THEIR STUFF TOGETHER AND LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE. The recent iOS updates screwed a lot of iPhone owners - simple as that. Do something to fix it.
