I'm also back with the same problem plus even more!!! the wifi function itself is back in my 4s BUT it's unable to join ANY network for more than 30sec.... But ther's more to it than I expected! 7.1 turned my handset into a battery drainging, laggy piece of junk with no wifi, unstable bluetooth!!! APPLE, you better fix ot immediately or ya'll you keep losing your customers fast!!!

I'm having this exact issue on my iPhone 4S. I did a full restore to try to resolve the issue, and it still failed... but it failed at restoring from my backup so now I'm doing a full restore and setting it up as a new device.

Resetting my network settings before my system restore did not solve the issue.

Since the back of my phone is shattered, I'll get no love from the apple store I imagine... but it worked fine before the update to 7.1 and now it is not working!

I'm in the exact same boat with my 4S. My wifi has been greyed out from the moment that I upgraded and only sporadically returned for five minutes here and there. The phone is also super slow and freezes constantly. I would LOVE to know how many of us are suffering from the same problem. Apple, if you don't act soon, you are going to really start losing some customers.

The problem very much seems to be overheating of the iPhone 4s processor and/or wifi chipset caused by the iOS 7 software. A related but more sporadic problem has been the sudden shutdown of the phone.

If I remove the case and place the phone on a small, chilled ice/gel pack normal wifi functionality returns in about 5 minutes. It works normally until the phone (or cold pack) warms again. Wifi will either not connect or disconnect if the phone is warmed -- in a pocket, after extended calls, after charging, etc.

It's hardly a convenient workaround but it has worked reliably for the past 5 days. At least I can use wifi for data and app updates while at my desk -- and apparently the wifi chipset or antenna does NOT "burn out".

Wifi problems on my iPhone 4s began with iOS 7.0.4 including grayed-out wifi and "unable to join network" errors. 7.1 update did not fix the problem, neither did the earlier Apple recommended or unofficial fixes. Previous user suggestions using blow dryers (didn't try that) or leaving it in the fridge (hard to use the phone while it's in the fridge...) also seem to indicate a temperature issue caused by the software running on the iPhone 4s hardware. I'm skeptical but still hopeful that Apple will produce a solution very soon.

Curious to hear if this or a similar workaround works for anyone else.

So, here's a follow up post about my 4S wifi & bluetooth issue. I called Apple's customer care and spoke to a couple of reps. They were all very helpful. The 1st step was to try to rebuild the phone. After I did that & it failed I called back. The rep acknoleged that it wasn't the software and told me that I could get the $199 out-of-warrenty replacement. I respectully pushed back and made my case as to why I didn't think I should have to pay since this occured right after an upgrade. He passed me to his supervisor who granted a one-time no-cost warrenty upgrade.

Everyone was very helpful along the process. I hope that other's can find a solv.

My suggestion is to go through the apple customer service process & see where it takes you. In my case it worked out well.

Hopefully, there will be a longterm solution for this problem from Apple.

I have a relatively new iPhone 4s 16 GB and have observed many of the symptoms reported in this post.

I first started noticing the issue in iOS 7.0.6 and now the behaviour is worse in 7.1.

Tried all the restores and resets, but the problem persists.

Have seen:

- WiFi automatically connecting and disconnecting to my home network (other devices are all fine)

- Slow response to toggle the WiFi enable slider

- Have seen the "Wifi not available" notification after difficultly connecting (multiple connects/ disconnects) to previously sound networks

I think this is definitely a systemic bug in the FW and not a HW problem as it does work for a while ... Before dropping and reconnecting again. Hope others post their similar experiences to garner more momentum and to enhance the visibility of this very frustrating issue.

My music playing network connected phone now has lost one of its key value propositions ... Apple, could you please acknowledge and address this solvable pain point in 7.1.1 ?

I had a perfectly good working phone until I updated to ios7.0.6.

First my wifi was keep dropping out & eventually greyed out completely so I assumed software cause the issue . I took my phone to an ifix store just for advice, they told me it's a hardware problem, the wifi chip has burnt out during the update, which I didn't believe at all. So waited to update to ios7.1

I've not got 7.1 and the wifi probem is still here. Plus my phone don't charge unless numerous times of pulling out the plug from the wall and putting it back & i notice there is no personal hotspot on my phone anymore.

I have put my phone into the freezer for 10min , wifi workrd for a short while and then got greyed out again. So I definitely think it's a hardware problem now. No software up date is going to fix it. I have a friend who jail broke his phone thinking it will help (different software) , but he still have the wifi issue

Hi, my iPhone 4S had a similar problem in February 2011, after several attempts to revive it, and nothing has worked, as I was traveling to the U.S. in May, and was still under warranty at no cost to me changed.

But now a year later the new phone looks similar to make a software upgrade problem. The WiFi only works to no more than 2 meters from the antenna WiFi, then away more disconnects, not a router problem as all other wireless devices will work fine as ever. What happened? my phone will have lost its antenna gain?. I live in Argentina there is no Apple Store here, I do not travel to the U.S., from what I saw on the website of apple change the phone for an equal (which will surely have the same problem) miss u $ s 200. I am really disillusioned with Iphone.
