I downloaded 7.1 and then as soon as my phone got a little warm, it lost the ability to get wifi.

I let it sit for a while and tried again and it was greyed out. I went to apple store And they said it was a hardware issue. My Wifi chip required service. Of course my warranty expired in Jan. They could sell me a new phone for$$$$. I tried the heat up using my car defroster and let it cool naturally....and Wifi was back!

For me it's almost the same:

I had a problem with the Stand-by button in September 2013 and since the phone was under guarantee I got a new iPhone 4S in an Apple Store as replacement.

Then, after 5 months the 1 year Apple guarantee expires and I have this Wifi problem with the iPhone I got in September 2013!! The problem started with with iOS6. I have tried everything: update to iOS7, restore network settings, restore whole settings, etc. etc. and nothing works. My monthly 3G data limit is running out much quicker as expected.

I really expect a fair solution. This is not the quality expected fron Apple.

I upgraded to IOS 7.1 on my Ipad last weekend and ever since my WI-FI has stopped working. My WI-FI is on and searches continuously for a wifi signal but cannot locate one. I am sure that my wifi is working because my new ipad Mini is working just fine with wifi. I have tried EVERY reset and every method that has worked for others to resolve this matter, but to no avail. How can Apple not have come out with a solution to this wifi issue when it is affecting so many people. I regret upgrading my software now, but never expected it to kill my wifi!

Apple, I am a very disatisified Customer, I've been with you since 1998. Where, now, is your Ethos?

I Visited with Tokyo, Shibuya Apple Store's Genius looking for satisfaction, here's what I was told.

Your iPhone detected a Wifi Issue when the iOS Update ran a Diganostic and found a potential error in the WiFi Component. That Diagnostic disabled your WiFi to save it from failing in the future.

'Oh, so Apple's iOS 7.1 did me a favor by disabling a functioning WiFi in the belief that it would malfunction sometime in the future?'

This is a intrusive piece of Software that has attacked a functioning device and left it crippled.

So concerned are Apple about the quality of my product that they remove the functioning item so that I don't get caught with a failed device in the future whenever that might be.

But, of course, for around ¥18,000 I can have a replacement 4S sold to me.

I bought my iPhone 4S in Hong Kong Fully Unlocked. It's Warranty Expired Nov 2013.

That means the phone is 14 months old, and I repeat, was functioning perfectly before iOS 7.1.

Shibuya Apple stores manager advised me not to do any iOS updates after the warranty expires because it won't be covered under warranty repairs.

I'm confused by this policy, so the Hardware is working perfectly, Apple's iTunes keeps prompting the user to instal the latest update but if it breaks some functionality then, unfortunately, you will have to pay up for repairs.

I had No WiFi Issues with the phone after any previous Updates.

Prior to 7.1 iOS I was happily using 7.0?.

I left the Apple store in disgust and went about trying to downgrade my iOS to the previous version.

I reset Warnings and did a complete Restore and got my WiFi back.

It's also curious that the Apple Genius did not do anything Technical in the Store apart from looking at my warranty info and 'About this phone' info.

She said the update must have found a problem and it was just bad luck.

An Apple product is regarded as a high quality product, more expensive than competitors products.

A phone that fails after 14 months doesn't fit that profile. In fact, I'm convinced my Hardware isn't faulty.

I am, however, convinced that Apple store staff have an Agenda to push new Hardware replacements onto it's customers, that they must pay for, to solve a software issue that Apple has, itself, created.

To all of you struggling to get your WiFi back on, try that Full Restore from iTunes and hope for the best.

I'm with you. Very disatisfied with this matter.

By the way, believe it or not, putting the IPHONE on the freezer works!

Turn it OFF, then place it (inside a freezer bag of course) for about 5 minutes... Turn it ON again and will see is working.(may happens that if you have to restart the mobile wifi will be off again). So, repeat the freezer stuff.

....so may be if APPLE doesn't have a way to fix it or provide a new phone, a fair alternative is to provide us a portatile freezer to use it anytime we need it.

Uhmmmm.

Apple are lying about this issue. They just want you to buy a new phone and don't want the headache of recalling millions of phones - as they should because it is a manufacturing fault. I tried all kinds of things including the hairdryer trick (find on youtube) - but nothing worked. Finally I found a great company called fixmyiphone who fixed it on the spot for £40. Thoroughly recommend them. It is a solder issue.

In my case reflowing (resolidering) the BT/WiFi chip didn't help. I'll be replacing it in a couple of days (as soon as it's delivered). And YES it IS possible wothout replacing the whole logic board. 4s uses a BCM4330 2.4GHz/FM combo chip from Broadcom (mod. 339s0154) which isn't hard to buy ... I ordered one for $18. I guess it's worth tryin, I'll post here as soon as it's done with a full report 🙂
