iOS 7.1 Random Reboots

So, according to all the reports, iOS 7.1 is meant to fix the white/black screen reboots. Well, HUGE fail. Ever since I upgraded from iOS 6 to iOS 7, I''ve had reboots, including during a couple of phone calls.

Now, with iOS 7.1, they continue. It would happen far too frequently and with very few identifiable common traits to each one. Even my iPad 2 has crashed a few times under 7.1.

I could be on the task screen to close an app and it would crash, or it would stall for 30 seconds, then crash, or I'd open an app and it'd crash. Or it'd just crash when I flipped between home screens. Since I upgraded to iOS 7.1, it has done it about 30 or 40 times.

So, some places on the internet suggested a wipe, iOS reinstall then restore. So, I've been doing that. It rebooted 5 times during the iOS install, then started restoring the images, apps, etc. and rebooted every minute for about 30 minutes, installing 1 or 2 apps at a time, then crash, reboot, another couple of apps, crash, reboot, etc. etc.

I'm still restoring and it's been stable for 20 minutes so far, but I'm not holding my breath.

DEAR APPLE...FIX THIS! PROPERLY! You have effectively made my iPhone 4S unusable 'cos I can't trust it not to reboot when I need it... I was going to upgrade to a 5S and give my 4S to my mother (she currently has my old 3GS) but how can I when it's so unreliably trash.

COME ON, PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF SANITY, FIX IT PROPERLY.

Well, I for one did full reboots, etc. as detailed in my OP. everything from a turn off/on up to a full DFU firmware reinstall and restore, with everything in between.

Time between releases is irrelevant, it's effort and quantity of testing that counts. Personally, I've had reboot errors since 7.0, but they are so much worse in 7.1. And I have logged them in every event, from single tap of the home button to side swiping the home screen and running any of a couple of dozen different apps, including system apps, settings, etc. etc.

Oh! and for the other one who said "everything is on Dropbox" and "who, over 30 plays games" not all my business and personal data CAN be on Dropbox because the app doesn't offer that functionality, I play games, I read books, I take pictures. Sometimes, I have down time from work. And I'm well over 30, having done a LOT of years as IT support.

Not all of us are ignorant noobs or idiots.

Ha! You are either trolling, blind (see above for Thaleb´s first post) or working for Apple

I did EVERYTHING

even a complete reinstall at the Apple Store from their computer

Ipad mini is still screwed and Apple dont have anything more to suggest....

By the way, what has "knowing a lot about 7.1" got to do with anything. Why should i care? I update all sorts of stuff on Apple kit and Pc progs, without knowing what the updates are about other than what is "new". Completely ridiculous post that, killhippie. You must be a techie with no feeling for the layman. Rather like the Apple Cupertino "programmers".

of course i meant "STORED" in Dropbox. It is still important stuff to ME though - and if i update my ip5 to 7.1 (which i have not done thank God), then where will i be if it goes into reboot mode constantly?

Oh - you may be an IT support guy but you must have met some real numpties out there if you think there are some eajits who think Dropbox is going to emulate their Company software!

Oh and as for the games - yep i have games - chess and scrabble - that what you meant ? or something less cerebral?!

Whatever - IOS7.1 screwed 2 of my Apple devices and even Apple Genius Store dont know what to say. They did a complete hard reinstall from their own computer system this morning and my ipad mini is still screwed. Now how bad is that? Imagine Mercedes tells you your S500 is to be written off cos they cannot fix the engine after the 1 year guarantee is finished......

Hi ,I guess quality of the iphone lasted on the day we lost steve jobs. Sorry to say this 😢

my iphone 4 installed with update 7.1, screwd up my mobile. It is continuously rebooting. It is an issue thatcan befound by just installing the update. How come apple guys can release such update without proper testing.

Hope this will be addressed with high priority. Lot of important docs, contacts and other apps which required for a business willl be saved to iphone. please dont consider iphone just a device to play games.

Agree 100%. Ive is a terrible terrible terrible interface designer and the battery life on my work iPhone 5 is dismal under iOS 7.1. I put it in a drawer and to sleep with a full charge on a Friday night, come back on a Monday and the battery's either dead or below 10%.

It's asleep. It's never called. I don't even know the phone number and still, somehow, the battery manages to find a way to run out over the weekend when it's not being used at all.

That and I just love the microscopic text on the back of the device that is supposed to mean something. Just who was meant to read this text? Ants?

totally agreed Alex Zavatone

Ive made things change though - on the outside - hence the uptake to make Apple the biggest company in the world at one time - let's be honest Alex

Not sure as a tech (exterior) designer from Newcastle Uni in England that he has anything to do with the interior of the phone/ipad/ipod etc - i think moreover the whole lot got farmed out after Steve left us. I think that we are in for a whole world of hurt from now on in cos there is not that "fear" any more in the Company. I read somewhere that Cook got 468 mio bucks for a year's salary as an interim and now approved Chairman

Nice earner

But the product now is s***

This morning i went to Apple Store

They reinstalled my Ipad Mini's 7.1 upgrade from scratch from their computer in house

My ipad is still effed

I then went to the local "other store" and took pics on my "still working and not upgraded to 7.1 IP5" of several sammies (even up to the 10 inch which although is not holdable like the IPmini, is still a nice bit of kit)

first english bloke i bump into at the Android stand says to me "do you know of a good Ipad mini replacement? I installed 7.1 last friday and it is screwed - constantly reboots - it was a year old and now the Apple Store is telling me to pay 200 euros for a replacement mother board"

Apple have gone down the river for me Alex

Next stop = Ebay sale for a couple of pieces of s*** devices that are now bricked and cost me 1600 dollars and "sorry poor victim buyer but you best talk to the manufacturer", recoup my losses and buy an Android or a W8 Surface.

Bibi Apple - got the message yet? Your 7.1 is a ruination for your company.

I've similar issues... upgraded my wifes ipad 2 to IOS7.1 and now stuck in a reboot loop. Restored to factory defaults but still stuck in loop. tried different computer to force restore to default and no change. tried different cable to connect computer and ipad and no change. tried restore process in total about 8 times. It has restored as for 10-15 seconds I spotted the Hello screen.... then reset back into the loop.

Any suggestions for fix please?

Mar 17, 2014 9:15 AM in response to Flanags

All I can suggest is this and it's not pretty. If you have a Mac, (running 10.8 or 10.9) go to developer.apple.com and download the latest Xcode.

Install it and launch it.

You can plug in your iThing to the Mac anc open the Organizer with Command Option 2.

You should see your iDevice.

Select it.

There should be a little triangle to the left of the device. Click it to expand.

Select Device Logs and you can at lease see what is happening with the device.

Good luck.

Mar 17, 2014 9:27 AM in response to Flanags

@flanags:- here is a suggestion:- forget Apple and dump it. Buy something else. There is no point waiting for Apple to fix your wife's Ipad 2 - it is screwed and THEY CARE NOT ABOUT YOU. THEY CARE ABOUT THEIR CORE 95 % DEVICES THAT WORK TODAY

I even think they dont care about them either cos they lost the plot in Cupertino

Probably I was very very lucky, because now it seems that my problems are gone!!!

I've just made two operations.

First I restore mi Iphone 4 using iTunes and then I recovered all my data with my last backup.

Then I tried to solve the reboot (respring) problem when looking at the Notification Center.

After disabling all the information of the Notification Center, I enabled them one by one.

I found that the problem is the "Calendar Day View". I disabled it and respring disappeared!!!

After one day of normal usage (15 hours standby and 3 hours of usage) my battery is ok (around 50%).

Probably the recovery cleaned up some bad data or the OTA update was bugged.

Ok I've lost the "Calendar Day View" in the Notification Center, but now my iPhone 4 is faster and has very few lags.
