Safari Plug-In Failure after upgrading Flash Player

I've got OS X 10.9.2, Maverick, running on my iMac, and Safari 7.0.3.

Today I upgraded Flash Player to 13.0.0.182 version.

After upgrading I starting receiving the error message "Plug-in Failure" in every page I opened with video broadcasting, such as Youtube for instances, and no videos would be displayed anymore.

I already reinstalled Flash Player, rebooted my machine, have all plug-ins enabled in Safari Preferences, but no success whatsoever.

Think the solution could be downgrading to the early version of Flash Player, but have no idea how to do that now, since the Adobe site only allows me to UPgrade and not DOWNgrade.

Could anyone help me with this?

Many Thanks...

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Adobe has posted a fix with Flash Player 13.0.0.201

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1447282

I'm pleased to announce that Flash Player 13.0.0.201 for Mac is now available fromhttp://get.adobe.com/flashplayer. This release resolves the crash described in this thread. As noted above, you can either download this immediately from adobe.com or wait for the update to be applied automatically, within 24 hours, via our recommended auto update mechanism.

You may want to use the alternate method of updating from the System Preferences Control Panel to get the update. Of couse I haven't tried it yet. I may wait a couple of days on this one after the last issue. 😉

I tried installing the new update 13.0.0.201 .....did not work.

I uninstalled version 13 and reinstalled the new version 13 (with the new update already there).....did not work.

BEWARE. This thing has totally trashed my computer. I have done nothing to it since I bought it but install that first uppdate and it has been a mess ever since.

I've installed the update that Adobe just announced and it DOES NOT work on my computer which is only a few months old and has been horribly corrupted by the first version 13 update. IT STILL WILL NOT PLAY CNN VIDEO CLIPS !!!

Then you have other problems you need to deal with. It's not Adobe Flash.

I may have other problems but they were caused by Adobe Flash Player 13 (first update). I did nothing else to my user account (No udates, changes of preferences, settings, ect.). Immediately upon doing the frst update to Flash Player 13 the problem occurred.

As I've stated before, the other user of this computer (with their separate account) and the guest account did not update and they can still see CNN clips just fine (and video on other websites that I cannot.

I give up on Adobe and Flash Player. I'm sure there are those of you that think it is something I did wrong......but believe me I did nothing to cause this. Whether you believe it or not, Flash Player update somehow corrupted my system and I have no idea how to fix it. I hope none of you experience a similar situation. Signing out for now (permanently perhaps).

Then it is something running in your account that is the problem (since the Flash Player plug-in is installed in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ & affects all user accounts equally).

I'd try clearing your browser cache

I plan to create a new user (with a new password) and transfer all my files to it. After designating the new user account as an administrator, I'll simply delete the original administrator account that now seems corrupted.

Will this create a problem with anything else ???

Hi Lync,

Sorry to bother you - I have a peculiar issue with Adobe Flash Player - where I just removed the Adobe Flash Player machine (i don't want it anymore), yet every time I start up my Mac, I see "Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller" trying to remove this non-existent Adobe Flash Player.

Would appreciate your input - THANK YOU in advance.

Here are some screenshots regarding my Flash Player Uninstaller - please note I no longer have Adobe Flash Player in my Mac (checked Mac > System Preferences as well as Safari >Preferences, no traces of Flash Player as far as I know of). Also, Youtube is using HTML5 player to play videos and other flash sites can no longer play on my Mac.

strange that there is no Flash logo or Adobe logo - I was thinking maybe this is a virus but I have only heard of INSTALLER virus, not UNINSTALLER virus. I have always been careful about downloading new Adobe Flash Player only from the legit adobe.com source.

Anyway, I went ahead and clicked on UNINSTALL, and the following message appears.

I am still getting the UNINSTALLER pop up messages every time I start / restart my Mac. Its driving me crazy 😟

I decided to remove Adobe Flash Player 16.0.0.287 (January 24 Flash Player update) after I realized Adobe has not fixed all the vulnerabilities. It was after I had uninstalled Flash Player when I am getting this "uninstall" pop-up issues. I appreciate everyone's helpful input.

I believe I have found the issue and resolution on that pesky Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller - thought i'd share in case this would help someone.

Since that f***ing Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller pops up each time I start up the machine, I tried to google to see where I can check the startup items - and I did the following steps:

1. Click on Mac > System Preferences

2. Select Users and Groups

3. On the right pane you'll see Password | Login Items - click on Login Items.

On the Login items - I did see 'Adobe Flash Player Installer' - apparently this triggers the Uninstaller instead of Installer - but whatever - I have banned Flash Player from my Mac so I highlight this item on the Login Items list, and click on the minus sign button - it removed the Adobe Flash Player Installer from the Login Items list. Then I restarted my machine - and voila - NO MORE PESKY Adobe Flash Player uninstaller pop-ups!!!!

Again this might help for those who want to BAN Adobe Flash Player from their machines and are seeing the Adobe Flash Player Installer / Uninstaller every time they start up their machine. Apparently this is not a widespread problem but it still does happen. Good luck y'all and say goodbye to Adobe Flash Player (sorry Adobe, I still love your core products like Lightroom and Photoshop). Adobe should not have bought Macromedia (who originally developed Flash and Shockwave) years back...

It doesn't solve my problem, but at least I'm relieved to learn I'm not the only one who's internet activity has been affected by the latest Flash download.

I've never been first in line to upgrade software — mainly because I prefer to wait until bugs have been identified and resolved; but about a month ago, I started to receive warnings that various websites no longer recognized my version of Safari. G-MAil was first, but despite the warning, it still seemed to be working, so I ignored it. But soon afterward, a game site I occasionally visit locked me out because Flash was not up-to-date.

When I missed the opportunity to sneak a game or two into my regular schedule, I gave in and downloaded Flash from Adobe's website. I"m no longer sure of the version number, but think it might have been 17.0.

Whatever it was . . . it worked!! . . . but only for a couple of weeks. First, the original game site locked me out again for the same reason. Then, when I started having trouble with my email (www.mail.com) they also suggested it might be related to Flash and possibly Java Script, as well. Since nobody has ever mentioned the latter as possible problem, I ignored that, but tried to reinstall Flash; but when I tried, Adobe's scanner reported that I already had the latest version on my Mac.

According to Adobe Support, I was only eligible for help from their users' forum, so gave it a try: stated my problem . . . received a form message thanking me for my feedback and referral back to Apple for support. While waiting for a response, I also searched online and found instructions for managing "web content" under the Safari/Preferences/Privacy menu. Unfortunately, while I found the site, it only offered two options, but no sign of web content.

I did check the Utilities folder, as well; found 6 folders with Adobe Software or Flash in their name (2 for Adobe AIR . . . 2 for Adobe Creative CS6 . .. plus one Adobe Application Manager and One Flash Player Install Manager.)

I only opened the last two but found the Application Manager only contained a stack of files with 3-letter names that I was unable to identify, so not knowing if any of them were related to CS6 (which I absolutely did not want to lose), I just closed the folder without proceeding any further.

But I did pin my hopes on the Flash Player Intall Manager. Unfortunately, when I clicked on it, I discovered it only contained an uninstaller.

I did consider just uninstalling the existing file and downloading Flash from the Adobe website again, but after reading in this forum how many others have tried that unsuccessfully, I'm not sure of what other effects it might have on my Mac — especially since I already seem to be missing part of the Safari Preference Privacy pane.

Also, for the first time in the more than 30 years I've been a committed Mac user, this is the first time I can remember ever buying a Mac from an authorized Mac dealer that did not include a restore disk in the box (probably because for the first time since they were introduced, my model also came without a CD optical radar. :[

Purchased in the summer of 2014, mine is what must have been the standard 21" desktop model (2.7 FGz Intel core i5) with OS 10.8.3 and Safari 6.0.3.

Question: What do I need to do now?
