"Photos in the Camera Roll of "(your) iPhone" cannot be imported because the device is locked with a passcode. You must unlock the device to import them." My iPhone 5 running the latest iOS 7.1 and I'm using iPhoto '11 v 9.4.3

"Photos in the Camera Roll of "(your) iPhone" cannot be imported because the device is locked with a passcode. You must unlock the device to import them." That's the new error message when I plug in my iPhone 5 running the latest iOS 7.1 into the MacBook Pro running iPhoto '11 v.9.4.3. My Mac OSX is still 10.8.5.

So, I unlock the iPhone by entering the "passcode" before I plug it into the MBP and still iPhoto does nothing. At least it doesn't issue the error message above.

I've checked both iPhoto preferences and those for Photos and Camera in the Settings on the iPhone. There doesn't seem to be anything to change this lack of connectivity.

What next please?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

This worked for me too. If it's not working you can try this also.

1. Open iTunes along with iPhoto then

2. Plug in iPhone

3. Click "OK" to iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an invalid response message

4. Click "OK" to iPhoto message that photos cannot be imported.

5. Click "Trust" this computer on your iphone.

If this fails, then repeat 2-5

Usually works for me after 2 or 3 times

Thanks DaisyismyDog!

Cheers!

After updating my Iphone's IOS, Image Capture on my Mac Pro running 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) wouldn't cooperate with the Iphone and gave the message:

"Photos in the Camera Roll of "(your) iPhone" cannot be imported because the device is locked with a passcode. You must unlock the device to import them."

I finally got Image Capture to work again. Here's How:

1. Go to the Apple icon at the top left of your screen and and scroll down to the "Log Out" option.

2. Go ahead and log out, then log back in with your password.

3. Open Image Capture and see if that works.

I have had this problem with iPhone 5s for the last few days and have finally solved the problem . Go to Settings - General -reset - reset network settings . Next step is Settings -Touch id and passcode- unlock the iPhone . Open iTunes and connect phone with USB . The synk window will now appear but it may be superimposed by the original error message -shut error msg down and ok synk message. Finally click trust this computer on your phone and import should begin .
