Aug 7, 2014 8:22 AM in response to john mirthby gfxchick,We have had the same thing happen to my daughter's iPad she got from Grandma. Grandma was the original owner and when my daughter erased all of the data and content of the iPad, the iPad came up registered to the Appleid 5*****@qq.com.

Nov 5, 2014 4:21 PM in response to john mirthby pjgumila,I have the same issue but with my iPad Mini. Was upgrading the Mini from 7.0.2 to 8.0.2, but crashed and went into recovery mode. After the setup screen came back, it stated that it needs to be activated by email address 1*****@qq.com. Contacted Apple support and of course they needed a proof of purchase and still think that 1*****@qq.com used to own the Mini even though I bought it brand new from Walmart.
This is my theory and email to Apple customer support:
I understand that you need a proof of purchase to protect your product, but I am disappointed on how this came about. Either Walmart sold me a returned iPad mini that was used or there is something wrong with the update procedure from iTunes. Remember I was upgrading from iOS 7.0.2 to 8.0.2 and it crashed twice. It stated that I had to plug in the iPad mini to PC but it was already. The update process wiped out the data and hence where the iPad mini is at now. I looked up the email address where it stated to activate and it is 1•••••@qq.com. qq.com is a Chinese chat site where you can blog and instant message others. I don't want to speculate that during the crash that this iPad defaulted to some qq.com email address when it came out of the factory.
No response so I emailed again with:
I did a little research regarding this email address 1*****@qq.com and found that I am not the only ipad owner that has this problem. Reading on Apple discussions and other Apple forums other people with ipads have the same activation email address when it is their own ipad. And since you haven't replied to my previous email tells me that you know about this bug in this process and Apple will not support anyone without proof of purchase.
I would understand this policy if the activation email was a ...@gmail.com or ...@yahoo.com or even a ...@apple.com, but multiple owners having the same activation email of ....@qq.com. That is a bug. Is there some kind of alert or bug fix regarding this? If so, please let me know.
If you deny that there is a problem, then that is your opinion and I am still left with a ipad mini paper weight.
Finally a response with only one line:
In order for an activation lock request to be submitted you will need a proof of purchase.
I have a feeling that Apple knows about this problem and not doing anything about it.

Nov 23, 2014 9:31 PM in response to john mirthby superdruck,I have the same issue. After factory reset, it's saying the iPhone is currently linked under 2*****@qq.com. I can't continue after that, even if I used the correct Apple ID account used on that iPhone. I have never used any qq.com email account in my life at all.
This iPhone is a brand new one bought from Apple online store, one year ago! I still have the e-receipt in my mailbox.
I don't understand how the iPhone happened to be linked under that qq.com account. Did apple online store sell me a stolen iPhone?

Feb 17, 2015 9:17 AM in response to john mirthby MaryRoithi,Apple did not sell you a stolen iPhone. It's as simple as this - it got hacked.
My mum had the same with her iPad and it took us nearly a months to find out and not even Apple got it.
Hope I could help. xx

it got hacked.. had the same problem
What and how?

Feb 17, 2015 1:30 PM in response to fromsouthby MaryRoithi, apparently it got hacked by a group of Japanese people. I have no clue why and how, but if it really got hacked , I guess your facetime, iMessage and iCloud don't work. This also happened to my Mum and now we are struggling to make it work again, because they changed the AppleID to for example "5*****@qq.com". (The first number showing, varies.)
If you have the original invoice it shouldn't be a problem for Apple to make it work again.
Hope this helped at least a tiny bit.

Feb 17, 2015 2:25 PM in response to MaryRoithiby fromsouth,I know you trying your best, but what I was attempting to figure out that when you say hacked you mean that someone took her ipad, unlocked passcode, signed out of existing apple id, created new one (on her ipad) and signed back with new one that your mom does not know. I was curious how that could be done with as many details as you or your mom can remember. It appears that whoever had done that is brilliant hacker, cause not you, nor anybody will remember giving that ipad to anyone nor any other details available. Also how do you know that while there are no details, that was done by Japanese people. As far as I know the qq.com domain is registered in China.
