Battery Recall

I just read an article about how more ibook batteries are being recalled:

http://www.prnewswire.com/news/index_mail.shtml?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/08-24- 2006/0004421452&EDATE=

Time for everyone to check their batteries again (I do not believe mine applies with HQ4527 =/...oh well). Its not on the apple website yet, but it should be soon.

The new page still isn't helping me. I've sat on hold with Apple Customer Support for a total of 3 or 4 hours today on several different calls. They all keep telling me to "keep trying the form" and that some people are having luck with that.

Apparently I'm not "some people", because even though my computer serial is valid, the site says my battery serial is not. (My battery serial starts with ZZ405, so its within the published range and the two Support Reps that I actually got to speak with say its covered under the program and I need to order a replacement.)

This is disappointing, as Apple usually provides a higher standard of care for its customers. (Though the second support reps did ask whether or not I'd been injured by the battery. That was nice of him. When I told him no, he promptly referred me to the less-than-functional battery exchange website, just like the first guy.)

Any guesses on how many times it will take Apple to
get their batteries right? This will be my second
replacement battery, and while I'm sure they have
plenty of cash off of iPod sales, free batteries
can't be helping their bottom line.

While something like this DOES cost Apple money and reputation, the vast bulk of the expense is covered by Sony, the maker of the defective batteries used in Dell, Apple (and other) laptops.

Right now Sony seems to be covering about $400,000,000 worth of defective batteries...
