"Storage almost full" message on iOS 7.1.1

Shortly after I updated my iPhone 4 (on AT&T network) to iOS 7.1.1, I started getting "storage almost full" messages popping up. When I checked the available storage under settings, I saw that it was indeed down to 0. After synching to iTunes, I saw that the "other" category of data was taking up well over half of my 8GB of storage. After some experimenting, I noticed that it seems to be related to running the music app. When I run Music, the available storage shrinks quickly and has nothing to do with the actual size of the music files (it's the "other" files that take up room).

I've completely restored the phone from backup and this hasn't helped the situation. What's going on here?

Sadly they offered nothing and offered a restore claiming that they have seen this before and a restore should work. Seeing as I hadn't done one I accepted as it may fix my problem for a while (though I doubt it).

I mentioned itunes match etc but he just gave the usual spiel saying it is likely to be an app of some kind and not a problem with apple.

That could be the case I guess though it is all a bit vague.

Sorry I can't offer more help.

Cheers

Thanks again for taking the effort as well as providing feedback. It is all a bit vague but if you check the Diagnostics and Usage Data Reports it is full of 'itunescloudd_xxx' log files so I find the claim of being an app of some kind pretty wild and far fetched ;-)

The restore will fix your problem but as you say only for a while, the phone will run full shortly after the restore again once you start using the Music App and iTunes Match ...

Hi there. This problem showed up randomly on my iPhone 5s and I figured out what it was. It was NOT a shortage of storage. In fact, my iphone had over 7GB free. And yet the warning still popped up. In the end, I determined it was my bookmarks, which were being synced to all of my devices through iCloud. One of the bugs I've seen with bookmarks is that a bookmark can be repeated. In my case, I had over 3000 of the same bookmark in one of my folders. I turned off Safari syncing on my iphone (which took over 15 minutes to disable!), then deleted the extra bookmarks on my mac. After that was done, I connected my iphone to iTunes and re-synced it, checking the option to replace all bookmarks on the phone with ones from my mac. After that, turned back on Safari syncing on icloud and boom, problem solved.

The moral of the story is that what Apple is saying "storage almost full" is not really the issue. Perhaps that message may be referring to how the iphone stores and syncs bookmarks and maybe there is a limit to how many you can sync. But the end result is no more error message and no need to restore my phone. Hope this helps. You mileage may vary, obviously.

With all due respect, I think this is not the same problem I'm having with my iPhone 4. When I look at my storage on the Settings display, it actually does show nothing remaining. Also, I do not have a mac and do not even use Safari on my iPhone (I use Google Chrome instead).

Ever since I have stopped using the Music program, I have had a consistant 3GB of memory free and no messages.
