How do I turn off my IPOD??? I used to be able to do this!!!!

Hello.

Really need your help now. I have an IPOD nano. Never had a problem with it. Used to charge it through my computer but it never fully charged so I just got a charger the other day.

Well, I charged it up good this morning. Took over an hour. I see by the signal in the upper right hand side that it has a full charge.

I have tried holding down the pause thing (like I always did before), does not shut off.

I tried holding down the center thing, nothing happens.

How can I shut off this nano?

Thanks to anybody who faced a similar thing and found the solution.

Hi, I have an update. I took a walk to my local Radio Shack where I bought my ipod nano. I asked the guy to please "turn it off". I told him I had done the re-set and the restore and diagnostics.

He said to me, "you bought this less than a year ago, right?" I said "yeah, can you please print me out another receipt though"? he did so.

He then told me to go to any apple store and they would fix it for me. There is no apple store near me.

So I did the next best thing. I called the apple tech support and the guy couldn't be nicer.

He only asked for the serial number on my ipod which is located on the back of the ipod. Now if any of you can see the serial number on the ipod I'll give you a million dollars.
The guy had me to go itunes, and bring up the ipod selection thing and he walked me through all the steps to get my serial number.

He said to me "I am preparing a repair report for you, and will give you a repair number. Keep it in your records".

He went on "you will be receiving a box from us, simply put your ipod in it and mail it back. You won't pay for shipping either". I said really???

Then I asked him "do you fix this or replace it.? he was very honest. he said "sometimes we can fix it if it is a sensor thing but 95% of the time, we replace it.

I was thrilled.

So guys. If you can't fix yours, and you are under the year for the warranty, they will fix or replace it.

Nice to know, right?

Bye for now.

You're not going to believe it but the box just came.
I called yesterday, and the box arrived just this minute.

It's a box with foam inside. You take out the foam, put your ipod (just the ipod and nothing else) and you replace the foam.

You rip off the top packing list and underneath is a pre-paid return sticker already on the box. they even give you tape to reclose the box.

Very nicely done.

Oh, it goes back to them via DHL, NOT THE POST OFFICE!

So I have to either find my closes DHL drop off center or call up DHL and they'll pick it right up.

I'm getting a replacement by the way. it says so on the packing list.

Boy, am I happy!!!!

So now you know exactly what will happen when you call them up. Just be sure you have your serial number handy.

Wow, for FREE? That's really not like Apple at all, XD. I think I actually fixed it for the moment, after running all the diagnostics tests a few times it turns off now. Takes a little longer than it used ot, but at least it turns off, XD. Well, thanks for all your guys' help! Now I know what to do if the problem comes back. 🙂

I never purchased any protection plan.
I bought my IPOD in May of this year from Radio Shack for $149.00 plus tax.

The apple guy on the phone told me they would be replacing it and even sent me the box to ship it back to them. With a pre-paid sticker for shipping.
So I didn't even have to pay for shipping.

Any anybody who would pay $29.99 for that two inch thing, well, I can't imagine.

I guess I am so lucky. My niece told me they replaced her IPOD twice.

what is going on with these machines. Why do they not shut off????

Hi there.
Well, today really ****** me off. I finally got it to work by plugging it into the computer. It would recharge for five minutes (It was already completely charged so don't ask me why I had to do this again but it was the only way to get the stupid thing to turn on).

So I plug it into the USB thing and it charges, says it's updating and safe to disconnect. I said "HALLELUYAH" . Well, that lasted all of 30 seconds.

I kept getting the message. Firewire can't connect, blah, blah, blah, I then hooked it up again and it showed me my songs. I had to do this 4 times.

I tried to call Apple support. Forget about it.
So I finally got it to work and went out for a walk. I walked for 30 minutes when all of a sudden, the firewire message comes back on and now even though it's playing my songs, I can't adjust the volume and I can't choose a song. Then it went off for good.

I got so disgusted I came home and called Apple Support and stayed on waiting for someone to pick up (took 30 minutes).

I knew I had to be polite and I didn't want any problems so I just told the guy (nicely) what was happening. I explained that I had just sent it into them and it was returned and now (and I explained everything it was doing).

Want to know what the guy said? He said "well, they couldn't find anything wrong with it except it wouldn't turn off, so they turned it off for you".

I just sat there absolutely amazed at what he said.

I said to him "you mean they didn't fix this thing"? he said "well, they found nothing wrong, it just wouldn't turn off so they found a way to turn it off".

I politely told him to put everything I said into his notes that he was putting on his screen. I documented everything. He then said "oh, now, they will probably replace your IPOD".

I just said thank you, took the repair id# and hung up.
I was so mad I could hit a cow. They never fixed it. They shipped it back to me still broken.

We'll see what happens now.
They are sending a pre-paid package and I'll just do what I did last time, pop it in and mail it back to them.

Oh by the way,for anybody who wants the Apple support phone number, it's 1-800-320-3728.

will update you.
