How do I turn off my IPOD??? I used to be able to do this!!!!

Hello.

Really need your help now. I have an IPOD nano. Never had a problem with it. Used to charge it through my computer but it never fully charged so I just got a charger the other day.

Well, I charged it up good this morning. Took over an hour. I see by the signal in the upper right hand side that it has a full charge.

I have tried holding down the pause thing (like I always did before), does not shut off.

I tried holding down the center thing, nothing happens.

How can I shut off this nano?

Thanks to anybody who faced a similar thing and found the solution.

A warranty lasts for one year from the time you purchased it.
they say on the support site, that you have 180 days from when you bought it to do one phone tech support thing.
That is not true because I bought mine in May and I called Tech support twice and had no problem.

So call the number, tell the person what's wrong and they will send you a pre-paid package thing where you just pop in the nano and they'll (supposedly) fix it and mail it back to you (with no cost to you).

best of luck, melody

When they first sent it back to me, of course I turned it on, checked that it worked and turned it off. I was so excited it actually turned off!!!

So I didn't get to go for a power walk for some time. Maybe two weeks. We've had really bad weather around here.
So yesterday, thinking I'm going to go for a power walk, I turned it on and that darned firewire message thing came on and the only way it would go away was if I plugged my ipod into my computer (now it already had been charged so I couldn't understand why it had to be recharged). But recharge it, it did!!! That lasted five minutes. As soon as I walked out the door, the firewire message thing came on. I went back to my computer and had to do this 5 times or more. So when I called the guy he explained that the only thing they did was turn it off (isn't that the most stupid thing you ever heard???).
Well, today, my doorbell rings and there's a little box in my mailbox. They actually did this overnight, DHL. I placed my ipod in the middle of the foam padding, closed and sealed the box (they supply you with absolutely everything, the box already has a pre-paid sticker on it, and they even give you scotch tape to seal up the box. So when it was all done I simply walked to my local drug store which accepts DHL packages and off it went.

So now we shall see what I receive!!!!!

will update

You got that right!!!! I called six times in one day. After waiting 15 minutes each time, I tried to go online and do an email to tech support.

If anybody out there can give me an e-mail to tech support, well, if I had a million dollars I'd give it to you.

I tried to find a direct contact e-mail link.

Usually on these sites, there is a "contact us" link. And when you click on it, you fill out your problem, give your email address and somebody gets back to you.

Well, (and I'm computer literate and I know how to search for things), I couldn't for the life of me find any contact link.

So I just had to call back again, wait 30 minutes, and finally the tech guy came on.

I brought my package (with my broken IPOD) to my local drugstore yesterday. They do the DHL thing.

So now I wait. I'll get an e-mail when they get it and they'll tell me. "We have received your IPOD, here's a tracking number so you can see the progress and you can know when we are shipping it back to you".

That's what happened last time. I'm telling you guys this so you will know exactly what happens when, and if, your IPOD starts acting up and you have to send it in for repair.

Believe me, I'm the type of person who wants to know every step of a repair process.

be well,

Melody

Well, let me tell you the latest.
I just went online and checked the status of my repair.
This is the second repair mind you!!!
They received it two days ago, and they shipped it out to me today.

guess what it says? Original Product Returned- no problem found!!!

Are they serious? No problem found?????

Not only can't I turn the darn thing off again, I keep getting a fire-wire message and I can't select any songs and the tech guy told me he noted everything I said.

I have no idea what recourse I have now!!!!

If anybody has any suggestions, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Thanks, Melody

Wow. Yeah.. apple's a B *h. Sounds like you're going to have to speak to the founder of the company to get any help... So it's the software and they erased everything... I think all I can really suggest is taking it to the store you bought it from (presuming the warranty is still in effect) and ask if you can exchange it. Explain everything down to the last detail and ask if they can do anything for you. That's all I can really come up with.

AND! as for the person who said the screen cracked and it looks like an ink stain: it isn't ink. My Nintendo DS screen cracked once and it's just the LCD acting up. It'll get worse and worse and worse until you fix it, so I would suggest getting it in fast. But yeah.. not ink, just the way the technology works.

Hope everything works out!

(I know they never read these forums or someone would've suspended our accounts for extreme flaming >_>)

You suggested I bring it back to the store I bought it from right?

I bought it from Radio Shack in May of this year.
when it first started to act up, the first place I went was to Radio Shack.

I had my receipt. They confirmed that yes indeed I did buy it there. BUT, IT'S NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY!!!

When you buy an APPLE PRODUCT from Radio Shack, you have to deal with Apple!
That's what the Radio Shack manager said to me!!!

oh well, this thing is a dud. I had 3 and half months of good playing. I'll tell you one thing.

I will never buy another Apple Product again.

What I will do is write to the head of Apple.

Will let you know what happens!!!

P.s. thanks guys, you are the best
