Its working as designed - following quote is from http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5949

To configure Touch ID, you must first set up a passcode. Touch ID is designed to minimize the input of your passcode; but your passcode will be needed for additional security validation:

  • After restarting your iPhone 5s
  • When more than 48 hours have elapsed from the last time you unlocked your iPhone 5s
  • To enter the Touch ID & Passcode setting

Perhaps you should learn to read & follow a thread before commenting on that thread...

That is not helping folks, so kindly stop.

Thank you.

You should learn to ignore comments in a public forum if you don’t like them.

Also, you responded to a post from May 2014, when this wasn’t an issue with iPhone 6s running iOS 9.0.2.

and the Phone 6 was still 6 months from being released!

An employer profile was exactly the issue on the first page of this thread (which was then resurrected 17 months later when it seems a bug in iOS 9 appeared)...

Thank you.

Same here, several days without this false 48h password request, but this morning it happened again (iPhone 5s, iOS9.0.2). It did it despite using the phone all day yesterday. Initially I saw it only about 48h after I restarted the phone, but this is indeed different and somewhat intermittent too. Hope this helps to debug the issue.

I too charge my phone every night. It's only happened three or so times for me, but when it has happened, it was only in the morning after the phone has charged all night. No idea whether that's a coincidence, but it is a fact.

There are too many variables involved. It could be overnight, whether it was charged during that time, or not. It could be idle for more that a certain amount of time (e.g., 1 hour). I know it has happened to me in the afternoon, when I had been using it in the morning. So as far as I can tell it is totally random.

Okay, none of this back and forth is helping.

My experience on this topic, my phone has done the 48 hours thing two weeks in a row, on the first morning after traveling from West to East across time zones in the US, and leaving the phone plugged in overnight. I use my phone every day of the week, so I should never see the 48 hours thing. I'll know later this week if it does the same.

It's coincidence. It has happened to me at times other than the first wake-up in the morning. It's happened 3 times on my iPad, which I do NOT charge overnight, and once on my iPhone, which I do charge overnight. However, it happened during the day after I had used it several times.

Stumbled on to this thread searching for why this is happening to my iPad. Luckily, I don't think I've seen this happen on my phone but its frequent with the iPad. Similar to you and others, I charge phone ever night, iPad every few days. Didn't see much help/answers in this thread (but a LOT of flaming! which I can't see I see too much of on Apple boards!)

Hope we get a fix or a solution soon!

Stopped happening on my iPhone 6 Plus for the past two weeks, after doing it each of the prior two weeks, but it just occurred last night on my iPad air 2. I use both these devices every day, using the touch id to log in. There is definitely a bug in iOS 9.1, perhaps even was present in 9.0. I never had this happen pre-9.1, and I've had my iPhone 6 plus for just over a year, the iPad air 2 for a couple of months. Both are running 9.1. Still wondering where Apple outsources this development to...Apple is starting to look more and more like Microsoft. Would sure like Steve Jobs back at the helm, to take no prisoners when it comes to demanding higher quality. The current guy at the top just doesn't seem to have that figured out, not sure he ever will.
