Why do lightning cables break so easily?

To cut to the chase, my third lightning cable broke today. I plug it in and nothing happens. This has happened with all three the same way and it seems they just keep breaking faster and faster.

And don't tell me it's my phone because it charges fine on my ihome.

And don't tell me it's my fault because I'm fought with the cable or something.

I take pristine care of my cables

What I wanna know is if there's any more durable third party chargers out there?? Or a better way to prevent this from happening?

Because these chumps at apple obviously either don't know what they're doing or they're trying to scam us with chargers like they do with adding loads of "other data" to our iPhones.

Now let me go head over to my local apple store to shell out 30 dollars for another lightning cable that's gonna break in 3 weeks.

iPhone 5, iOS 7.1

I've literally gone through about 5 cables from various brands, from apple to off brands and I'm getting sick of it. I've wasted so much money on replacement cables. I don't think my old Apple cables ever broke, but these lightning ones are garbage. If anyone has a suggestion on one that lasts for than 3 or 4 months please let me know.

I agree the cables suck. We are a household of about 6 devices using the lightning connecter and they just stop working after a few months. None show any wear and tear. We have legacy itouches and ipads and the older cables work forever. The fanboys hear need to get over themselves and acknowledge that apple doesnt poop rainbows and might need to do something with how sensitive their devices are with the cables.

Please stop typing in all caps. It's considered shouting and it's rude. Also, combined with the complete lack of punctuation, it will make your posts even less comprehensible.

I am not hard on my cords at all. A couple got frayed and stopped working. They shouldn't have gotten frayed the way they did, as I do not misuse them. A couple I had for like a month and just stopped working. I really can't believe all these people who say they have no problems. Makes me wonder how many of you are for real or work for Apple trying to refute the claims that their cords suck. And why would you ever need 8 cords? I've had probably 5 or 6 in the past 2-3 years and only one still works (I wish i could remember what brand this one was).

I haven't had no problems. I've had one. The cable that was on my desk kept getting slammed in the desk drawer. After about a year, it stopped working. I have a bunch of cables because, I've owned every iPhone with a lightning cable up to the iPhone 6 and I've owned a number iPads. As each one comes with a cable and I never get rid of them, they accumulate.

If a cable, after a couple of months just stops working and shows no damage, get it replaced under warranty.

If an Apple employee ever posts anywhere in these forums, they will be clearly identified as such. Making accusations about people you don't know is a pretty rude way to introduce yourself to the forums.

Nobody is saying that others may not have had issues with their cables. But to say everyone has is clearly false, as many of us have not had any problems. I suppose you won't believe me when I say I've never once had to have an iPhone or iPad repaired, for anything, over the last 8 years and that I even still have and use my original iPhone 3G power adapter. Nor have I ever once, in many decades, ever "lost" a password to any account, and never once lost any data on any electronic device I've ever owned and regardless of any errors or malfunctions, going back to my Zenith Easy PC in 1984?

Not everyone experiences the same problems or issues as someone else.

Why would anyone need 8 cables (or 6 or 5 or 25? Why does anyone need more than one of anything? Why should anyone have to rationalize or justify their property choices to you? Many people have multiple cars, homes, boats, laptops, TVs, extension cables, toothbrushes, etc, etc. How many of anything anyone owns is their choice, for whatever reasons they wish to have them. Many of us use our devices in many places (multiple rooms in our homes, our places of work, our car(s), when traveling, and simply don't want to have to keep displacing one or a few cables. Why not buy a bunch and leave them where they're needed? I have four 12W iPad chargers too, for much the same reasons - is that too many by your standards?

So anyone who disagrees with you or anyone else, or who's experience is opposite of your own is merely a ranting "fan boy" and should be ignored and discounted? What a hypocrite.

Why is it when anyone posts a negative experience or personal opinion here and gets a response of an alternative positive opinion or experience to their own, the latter are a merely "fan boys" and should be dismissed, while the former must be the universally correct and accepted world-view of all things Apple?

When you have lost the argument the most common strategy is to attack the person rather than the idea being discussed (called "argumentum ad hominem"). So doing so just proves that one has lost.

And when did being a fan of something become inherently derogatory? I am quite a fan of Planters roasted & lightly salted peanuts, but I don't deride someone who prefers another brand of peanut or another type of nut altogether (although, clearly they need to re-think their choices! 😀).

And why always the sexist usage "fan boy" 😕
