MacBook Air Mid 2014 but shows Mid 2013

I just received my MacBook Air yesterday, the latest 1.4GHz i5 processor, customized to 8GB ram, and after setting it up and installing/updating everything i need (took me whole night to that), I looked into "About This Mac" and it says there "Mid 2013", everything else in System Report is as per the latest model. I checked the box before I opened, and everything is also as per specification, but I would assume it should say "Mid 2014".

I'm on the phone with Apple Support as I type, earlier was on the online support chat, and they were as baffled how did this happen. They even offered a replacement but I will need to send it back. Now that I am on the phone with them, the only explanation they gave me is that, ALL the new MacBook Air's says "Mid 2013", that indicates hardware date, despite them being "new". And assured me there's no issue with it.

I argued that depreciates the value of the MacBook Air almost immediately, and I felt cheated buying a 2014 model but instead I got 2013 hardware! And since I have been on hold for 20 minutes at least, while they check. A senior advisor came on and explained, that as there were no major changes in the MacBook Air, it is still Mid 2013 model BUT the specifications are 2014.

Based on that explanation, I assume EVERY MacBook Air with the 1.4GHz processor that was released this year, should say Mid 2013. BUT if there is even one that says 2014, I believe every owner would want one. And I stressed to the support personnel that if at any time I find one that says 2014, I will refer back to this case and demand for a replacement.

So if other owners would just post your "About This Mac" and verify this explanation, for the benefit of everyone.User uploaded file

Yes I was told something about that by a specialist in the store. But if you have a Core i7 model I do not believe the part number changed as the computer's processors we not changed, where as the Core i5s were.

Yes, I got the upgraded version, Core i7! I will go to the store tomorrow to see if they have anything saying 2014, and keep you updated. If I am not able to get something saying part B and 2014, I might just return it and wait a few months until this gets sorted out to buy one without this issue! I just do not like the idea of having something that was built a year ago. I guess I am picky!!

Hi, I am from Brazil and i have the same issue. Today, i contact support of my country and they said that is happened with the customized models. Mine is i5 with 8GB. From what a I've seen here, these problems have occurred only with i7 and 8gb. I agree with most here, that it is a problem that must to be fix.

Anyone knows somebody that have a standard model (i5 with 4gb) that shows as a "mid 2013"??

The processor is a 2014 model, makes NO sense that show as a 2013 model.

I can't really understand why people are posting ''i got the same problem and here's my info:'' when it stands multiple times in the beginning of the thread why it is so.

And for you who does have the i5 problem: Theres not really much you can do, it's the same processor. Sorry😟

If you want a MacBook Air with a 2014 staple and a I7 processor you need to wait for the october event when they are most likely presenting a new refreshed and heavily upgraded line of all sorts of Macs with Intels new and delayed ''Broadwell'' (except the Mac Pro which runs on a Intel Xeon processor) and maybe DDR4?

BUT theres more good news: the resell value will NOT drop because of the ''2013 mark'' if you bought it early or mid 2014, the seller will probably check the serial and see that it was built 2014.

PS. MacBook Pro and Mac Pro is NOT the same computer, in fact they are really far away from each other.

The Core i5s have the same issue

My point is many people think that the issue is due to the fact that the 1.7 Ghz Core i7 is shared between the 2014 and 2013 models, but this is not the case,

First, not all Core i7 MBA models have this issue.

Second, It is not limited do the Core i7s many Core i5s also have the issue.
